Executive Director

$100k

Project EATS

Philo Ridge Farm (PRF) is a certified organic 500-acre farm located in Charlotte, Vermont, a vibrant agricultural community in the Champlain Valley, just south of Burlington. As a diversified farm with a decade of production experience, PRF aims to create a new model for small-scale farmers, one that will allow both the land and the farmer to prosper while also serving the community. PRF works with the University of Vermont, the Vermont Land Trust, and others to help monitor and evaluate its impacts on soil health, crop and pasture productivity, water quality, carbon sequestration, and wildlife populations, with the goal of inspiring others who are interested in understanding and supporting regenerative agriculture. Creating and sharing good food has always been a part of PRF’s work and spirit—as established by the founders Peter Swift, Diana McCargo, and Grant McCargo—who bought the property with the dream of preserving the farm’s agricultural legacy. PRF’s livestock program grazes over 300 acres of perennial pasture and includes ewes, lambs, pigs, chickens, and 100 Belted Galloway cattle. Its garden program grows two acres of organic produce and flowers using farming practices that build soil health, produce a variety of nutrient-dense foods, reduce the use of fossil fuels, and support the local agricultural community. Everything harvested is processed at PRF and sold in the dining facilities and Market which are inspired by a closed-loop nutrient system and serve as year-round gathering places for the community. After a decade of learning the land, growing with the community, and envisioning the future of farming, the founders have established PRF as a nonprofit foundation so that the farm continues to operate as a community asset for generations to come. PRF believes a key part of this future is to keep working lands working, which is why it will always remain a working farm. Today, PRF is driven to restore the connection between humans and land, valuing curiosity, empathy, honesty, humility, and conversation. Who We’re Looking For: Philo Ridge Farm is looking for an outstanding and inspiring leader to be our Executive Director. The Executive Director will be the top senior leadership position on the farm, which operates year-round with a high season from May to October, and will oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations.
