Description

The Field Technician performs electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, testing, repairs, modifications, and other technical tasks as assigned by a supervisor.

This role involves hands-on work with electrical and mechanical systems and equipment. Technicians will use standard hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, and other tools while performing troubleshooting using multimeters and PC-based test equipment. Responsibilities include reading piping diagrams, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, electrical schematics, and other technical documentation as required.

Technicians will perform testing procedures on various electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, communication, control, and functional systems. Testing may include functional testing, hipot testing, wiring continuity testing, pneumatic leakage testing, dynamic testing, burn-in testing, system diagnostics, and other technical testing as required. From time to time, the Field Technician may also assist engineering teams with various testing activities.

Regular customer interaction is required. Field Technicians must be able to communicate clearly, confidently explain their work, and complete all required test documentation, reports, and job-related forms.

Field Technicians often operate without direct supervision and are expected to take the lead on assignments. This is not an entry-level role. The Field Technician must be able to guide and assist other technicians as needed, initiate support requests from vendors, engineering, or manufacturing, and provide updates to the supervisor as required.

The Field Technician will also enter discrepancies into the appropriate database system and accurately report time worked.

Job Specifications — Minimum Requirements

• Previous work experience in electrical or mechanical testing
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or an associate degree in an engineering field preferred
• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, blueprints, and mechanical drawings
• Proficiency with basic hand tools and power tools
• Ability to use multimeters, chart recorders, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and similar testing equipment
• Basic proficiency with portable test equipment (PTE), including downloading and analyzing data
• Proficiency with the English measurement system and willingness to learn the Metric system within a defined timeframe
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to work flexible hours and any shift
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and lift, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
• Comfortable working in industrial, manufacturing, and field environments
• Willingness to travel for business or field assignments; extensive travel may be required
• Proficiency with MS Office and other industry-related software
• Ability to lead tasks and assist other technicians
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to produce cohesive, accurate, and relevant reports
• Ability to troubleshoot using downloaded data, schematics, and manuals
• Ability to analyze problems or data and produce comprehensive reports detailing findings
• Strong communication skills when interacting with customers and personnel
