Clinical Nurse Coordinator OBED

We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator OBED to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department and support our state-of-the-art neurological and obstetric emergency care services.

In this role, the Clinical Nurse Coordinator OBED is a frontline clinical leader and expert bedside nurse who coordinates and delivers high-quality, evidence-based care to patients presenting to the Obstetric Emergency Department. The coordinator will provide rapid triage and assessment of pregnant and postpartum patients, monitor maternal and fetal status, and collaborate closely with obstetricians, neurologists, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, and the broader interdisciplinary team. Drawing on St. David’s strong neurological program, the Clinical Nurse Coordinator OBED will also interface with neurologically complex patients when appropriate to the unit’s scope, ensuring seamless coordination of care between OBED and neurology services.

The Clinical Nurse Coordinator OBED is responsible for managing patient flow and assignments during the shift, helping to balance acuity and workload among staff and supporting optimal throughput and patient experience. This nurse functions as a key resource for clinical decision-making, provides guidance to nurses and ancillary staff, and promotes adherence to hospital policies, obstetric and emergency care protocols, and quality and safety standards. Core responsibilities include performing comprehensive nursing assessments; implementing individualized plans of care; administering medications and treatments; interpreting fetal monitoring and maternal vital signs; recognizing early signs of deterioration; and escalating care promptly.

The coordinator will maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), facilitate effective communication among providers, and support safe transitions of care from triage to inpatient units, operating room, or discharge as appropriate. The role also includes educating patients and families on diagnoses, procedures, medications, and follow-up care, while advocating for their preferences and needs to support a truly patient-centered experience. In addition, the Clinical Nurse Coordinator OBED will participate in obstetric, neonatal, and neurological emergency responses, applying current algorithms and best practices for crises such as hypertensive emergencies, hemorrhage, eclampsia, high-risk labor complications, and acute neurologic changes.

The nurse will collaborate with unit leadership on quality improvement initiatives, data-driven performance measures, and implementation of evidence-based practices designed to improve maternal, fetal, and neurological outcomes. As an informal leader, the coordinator will precept and mentor new nurses and support staff, reinforcing a culture of accountability, respect, and teamwork.
