Boston, Massachusetts Critical Care NP/PA Critical Care Locum Tenens Opportunity

Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants for a locum tenens opportunity supporting an adult multispecialty ICU in Boston, Massachusetts .

This is a focused critical care assignment within a teaching-hospital environment offering three 13-hour shifts per week, an average daily census of approximately seven patients, 24/7 physician/fellow support, and no procedural responsibilities . Current coverage needs are concentrated primarily on nights and weekends.

The APP functions as a responding ICU clinician , rounding with the attending physician and managing ongoing patient care throughout the shift. The patient population includes medical and surgical critical care with limited burn exposure.

Schedule

• Three 13-hour shifts per week
• Day Shift: 6:00 AM–7:00 PM
• Night Shift: 6:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Current priority is night and weekend coverage
• Minimum of 2 weekend shifts per month
• Approximately 4 weekend shifts per month preferred
• Friday nights count toward weekend coverage
• Providers are not required to work three shifts every weekend

Practice Environment

• Adult multispecialty ICU
• 10 ICU beds
• Average daily census of approximately 7 patients
• Medical and surgical critical care population
• Limited burn patient population
• Approximately 1–2 burn patients may be present
• Teaching hospital environment
• Four APPs currently on staff
• Attending physician supervision during daytime coverage
• Fellow and attending physician support during overnight coverage
• Epic EMR

Clinical Scope

The APP serves as a responding clinician within the ICU team and should be comfortable with:

• Adult critical care assessment and management
• Medical and surgical ICU patients
• Morning multidisciplinary rounds with the attending physician
• Ongoing patient assessment throughout the shift
• Completing clinical tasks established during rounds
• Afternoon reassessment and rounding
• Responding to changes in patient condition
• Clinical decision-making within the established ICU care model
• Collaboration with attending physicians, fellows, nursing and other members of the critical care team
• Epic documentation and order management

No Procedures Required

This locums role does not require:

• Intubations
• Central or arterial line placement
• Ventilator procedures
• EVD management
• Complex neuro/stroke management
• Echocardiography
• Transplant management

The assignment is designed around critical care assessment, response, management and coordination rather than procedural coverage .

Candidate Requirements

• Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Minimum 2 years of recent Critical Care / ICU experience
• Current BLS
• Current ACLS
• DEA
• Comfortable managing adult medical and surgical ICU patients
• Comfortable working within an academic physician/fellow-supported environment

Nurse Practitioners

• Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification required
• Active Massachusetts NP license required at presentation
• Candidates requiring new Massachusetts NP licensure cannot be considered for this assignment

Physician Assistants

• Minimum 2 years of Critical Care / ICU experience
• Active Massachusetts PA license strongly preferred
• Qualified PAs requiring Massachusetts licensure may be considered
• PA licensure must be initiated before the client can begin the appointment process
