Clark Public Library Part-Time Library Assistant Clark Public Library – Clark, NJ The Clark Public Library is hiring a part-time LIBRARY ASSISTANT. This position will be part-time with a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings and one weekend rotation a month. Applicants must be available to work various shifts. Hours total 20 per week. Must be available to work at least a 4 to 7 hour shift between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hours will vary when the weekend shift occurs. Position includes leave time benefits. Responsibilities include: Circulation desk service to visitors of all ages (greet, check-in, check-out, registration, etc.). Answer phones and forward calls to appropriate recipients as needed. Assist patrons with general directional questions within the library. Applicants must have the ability to shelf books alphabetically and by Dewey Decimal System. Check shelves to ensure materials are filed properly. Locate material based on call number. Perform searches for material not in its proper location. Prepare library materials for circulation/use. Assist patrons with public photocopiers and printers as needed. Must be able to exercise judgment and enforce policy in situations relevant to the position and in public service situations. Works effectively and courteously with the general public and other employees. Provide excellent customer service under all circumstances. Performs procedures related to circulation of materials, including check-in and out of library material, collection of fees and fines and registration of library members. Processes new library material and performs basic repairs to damaged library material. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required. Open to New Jersey residents only. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office products required. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Fluency in English. Ability to follow directions and procedures with accuracy and attention to detail. Comfortable working with the public and with people of all ages. Able to bend, stoop, reach, lift, stand, and easily move about as needed, as relevant to the position. Daily tasks require lifting, carrying, moving, and manipulating books and other library material as well as pushing a loaded cart full of books. Phone and office work experience required. Customer service experience in a library, office or retail environment is required. CPR training is a plus. Schedule: Approximately 20-24 hours per week , including some evenings and weekends. “Good Faith” Salary, Range, or Rate of Pay: Library Assistant: $17.30 Computer proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office products required.
