Preservation Officer

Directorate/Business Unit: Collection Services Work Type: Permanent - Part Time Location: Perth Closing Date: 2026-06-29 4:00 PM In the role of Preservation Officer, you will support the preservation, conservation, and digitisation of a wide range of physical and digital collection materials by undertaking preventive care activities, basic treatments, and digitisation tasks. You will respond to incoming requests, maintain accurate documentation, adhere to quality standards, and use a range of tools, equipment, and software. Working collaboratively with Conservators and colleagues, the role contributes to team workflows, project delivery, continuous improvement initiatives and the safe handling of collection materials. There is currently one permanent, part‑time (0.6FTE), 45 hours per fortnight vacancy. Candidate Profile To succeed in this role, you will be an engaged and conscientious professional who is passionate about the care, preservation and accessibility of collections and takes pride in contributing to the long‑term stewardship of Western Australia’s cultural and documentary heritage. You will be an experienced or emerging preservation practitioner with hands‑on capability to support preservation, conservation and digitisation activities, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement, quality outcomes, and the application of best‑practice standards under guidance. Essential Work‑Related Requirements Role Specific Demonstrated ability to use a range of tools, equipment and software relevant to preservation, conservation and digitisation workflows, following direction and technical procedures. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, record work progress and maintain accurate documentation and reporting. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position as specified in the Job Description Form, Addendum A – Job Dictionary Preservation Officer.
