Community Placement & Practicum Education Associate Coordinator Job no: 558503 Work type: Staff Location: Humboldt Salary Range: $5,083 – $7,228 per month. Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,083–$5,540 per month. Final salary placement is commensurate with experience, internal equity, and budget considerations. This is a full‑time, benefited, exempt, 12‑month pay plan, temporary position in the Department of Social Work. Additional benefits information can be found at Position Summary: Under the lead work direction of the Community Placement & Practicum Education Coordinator, and in collaboration with Department and Practicum Leaders and faculty, the incumbent supports the administration, coordination, and student learning outcomes associated with the Department of Social Work practicum program. The incumbent assists in preparing students for practicum placements, supports employment-based placement sites, develops student and site capacity to meet supplemental competencies, and assists with the administrative management of practicum processes. This position requires professional judgment, cultural humility, and the ability to apply both independent and collaborative decision-making in a fast‑paced, relational, and student‑centered environment. Key Responsibilities: Student Support – 25% Collaborate with the Practicum Coordinator to support professional development of students through workshops and one‑on‑one advising (e.g., résumé development, interview skills, and anti‑colonial collaboration and communication practices). Support Practicum Faculty in addressing student issues or concerns arising during practicum placement. Provide academic advising and support for campus-based and distributed learning BASW students to ensure timely progress toward degree and practicum readiness. Employment‑Based Placement Support – 25% Engage with student employers before practicum placement begins to ensure feasibility and alignment with program requirements and values. Assist in the development, review, and documentation of employment‑based practicum proposals with attention to Indigenous and rural practice frameworks. Provide off‑site co‑supervision for BASW students in employment‑based placements, as needed. In partnership with the Practicum Coordinator, stay informed about workforce advancement initiatives and their impact on placement opportunities. Collaborate with workforce advancement project leads to ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and communication regarding practicum placements. Administrative Task Support – 20% Assist the Practicum Coordinator and Administrative Support Coordinator (ASC) with program documentation and resource development. Support database and information management, including the maintenance of placement databases, position descriptions, and the S4 platform. Assist in preparing templates, forms, and resource materials for Practicum Faculty and site supervisors. Other Duties as Assigned – 5% Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Associated with this Position Include: General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management; general knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations. Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long‑range program improvements. Obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews. Reason logically. Collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required. Recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts. Rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office. As related to the major responsibilities for this position: Working knowledge of student development theory, advising, and field education principles in social work or related disciplines. Knowledge of organizational and program management principles. Ability to interpret and apply program policies, regulations, and procedures. Skill in planning, facilitating, and evaluating student development workshops. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including conflict resolution and cross‑cultural communication. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, employers, and community partners in a diverse and multicultural environment. Database management and documentation skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment, take initiative, and recommend improvements to program processes. Some evening and weekend work may be required to meet program and student needs. May require travel to placement sites and community partner locations. Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population. Minimum Qualifications: Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. Experience: Equivalent to two years of professional experience in social work, one of the student services program areas or a related field. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in social work field education, student support, or workforce development. Knowledge of Indigenous and rural social work practice frameworks.
