We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager to join a growing café and bakery operation in Springfield, VA. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on hospitality leader who enjoys working closely with a team, maintaining high operating standards, and helping drive day-to-day business performance.

The ideal candidate will have strong front-of-house leadership experience and be comfortable supporting both the guest-facing and production sides of the operation. Experience in a bakery, café, fast-casual, restaurant, or high-volume food service environment is highly valued.

About the Role

The Assistant General Manager will help oversee daily café operations, support the team, maintain service standards, and step in wherever needed to keep the business running smoothly.

The team currently includes approximately 15 FOH employees and 9 BOH employees.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and support daily café operations across opening, mid, and closing shifts
• Coach, train, and develop FOH team members
• Help manage scheduling, staffing, attendance, and day-to-day employee performance
• Maintain excellent customer service and hospitality standards
• Support inventory, ordering, food safety, cleanliness, and operational procedures
• Work closely with the kitchen and production teams to maintain smooth communication between FOH and BOH
• Assist with resolving operational issues and maintaining consistent product and service quality
• Help monitor business performance and contribute ideas to improve sales, efficiency, and team engagement
• Be a hands-on leader who is willing to jump in wherever the operation needs support

Bakery / Production Experience

Bakery or café experience is strongly preferred. Candidates with experience working around baking, pastry, sandwiches, cake production, or other food-production environments are encouraged to apply.

The operation includes early-morning production, with Bake and Sandwich teams beginning around 4:00 AM and the Cake team beginning around 6:00 AM. The Assistant General Manager should have flexibility to support the business across different shifts as needed.

• Strong leadership and team-building skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
• Excellent communication and customer-service skills
• Ability to coach and hold employees accountable
• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Flexibility to work opening, closing, weekends, and varying shifts based on business needs
• Bakery, pastry, café, or food-production experience is a strong plus
• Someone who leads from the floor and is comfortable getting involved in the operation

Compensation & Opportunity

• $45,000-$60,000 base salary, depending on experience
