Real Estate Accountant

Description Hilltop Residential is seeking a highly motivated entry level Real Estate Accountant who will have responsibility for property level accounting duties, prepare monthly financial reports for a portfolio of multifamily investment properties, and assist with other accounting & finance related duties, as needed. This position reports directly to the Controller and will work very closely with asset/property managers, lenders and other third parties. Responsible for reviewing and posting entries to the general ledger for assigned properties Prepare monthly financial statement analysis according to GAAP with variance reporting Record monthly adjusting and accrual entries and reconcile general ledger accounts Prepare monthly bank reconciliations noting any outstanding items for your manager Review the monthly operational reports. Verify balances tie and ensure changes from prior month reports are reasonable (e.g. Current month move-in's or move-out's, rent steps, etc.) before signing-off on Property’s monthly close-out Ensure timely payment of mortgages, property taxes, and insurance. Update schedules monthly and record needed journal entries Assist in the annual audit and tax return preparation as needed Additional duties as assigned by management Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required (or currently taking final classes required for degree completion) One year of general accounting experience preferred Organized and detail oriented Ability to communicate effectivelyDemonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel This position is fully in-person at our Corporate Office located at 9651 Katy Freeway, Houston TX 77024 and reports directly to the Controller.
