We own and operate across the full real estate lifecycle: residential property management, resident apartment maintenance, commercial real estate, acquisitions, and residential sales - all under one roof. We're growing quickly and looking for an experienced Controller to take ownership of the accounting function for our property management operations. This is a hands-on role for someone who knows AppFolio accounting inside and out, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where processes are still evolving. The Role As Controller, you'll be responsible for keeping our property-level accounting accurate, organized, and moving on schedule. This is not a purely supervisory role. We're looking for someone who is comfortable getting into the details - reconciling accounts, diagnosing accounting issues, working through AP and AR, and identifying discrepancies inside AppFolio. You'll work closely with ownership, property management, and operations and will have the opportunity to help build better accounting systems and processes as the company continues to scale. What You'll Do Manage and complete bank and account reconciliations Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable Review general ledger activity and property-level financials for accuracy Diagnose and resolve accounting discrepancies within AppFolio Research and correct reconciliation issues, posting errors, and account discrepancies Support month-end close and financial reporting Maintain accurate accounting records across managed properties Work with property managers and operations to resolve accounting-related issues Help build, document, and improve accounting processes as the company grows Jump in wherever needed - this role rewards initiative and problem-solving What We're Looking For Required: Bachelor's degree 3+ years of hands-on AppFolio accounting experience Property management accounting experience Strong understanding of bank reconciliations, general ledger accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable Strong Excel skills Excellent attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot accounting discrepancies Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities Nice to have: Experience managing accounting for multiple properties or entities Experience improving or implementing accounting procedures Experience working in a growing or entrepreneurial organization A startup mentality - resourceful, adaptable, willing to solve problems, and comfortable wearing multiple hats Compensation & Benefits Salary: Up to $75,000, based on experience Time off : 10 days PTO + 11 paid holidays Health : Medical, dental, and vision insurance Direct access to ownership and leadership Opportunity to help shape accounting processes as the company grows #J-18808-Ljbffr
