The Wang lab develops and uses novel biochemical tools to study the biosynthesis and functions of important chemical modifications on RNA . Commonly used techniques in the lab include cell culture and transfection, RNA purification and manipulation, molecular cloning, protein purification, and Illumina sequencing library construction.The technicians are expected to work closely with the PI to carry out specific experimental tasks and generate publication-quality data. They will also assist with maintaining lab supplies and equipment. Responsibilities Performs laboratory research as directed by the supervisor(s). Responsibilities will be modified as the technician gains experience in our lab. Responsibilities may include: molecular biology assays (molecular cloning, protein purification, sequencing, etc.). Cellular assays (cell culture, transfection, western blotting, RT-qPCR, etc) Attends laboratory meetings, presents data and participates in discussions Contributes to general laboratory maintenance and general reagent production as needed Reads the literature and prepare for the lab work Minimum Qualification Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency. At least one year of research experience in Biochemistry or Chemical Biology; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Undergraduate GPA higher than 3.2/4. Willing to commit to the job for at least two years Good at basic calculations in the laboratory setting. Demonstrated human relations and effective written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and ask for guidance when needed This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen Minimum Qualifications EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT : 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience). Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Laboratory Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience. Laboratory Technician, III : Requires 3+ years of related experience. Preferences Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency. At least one year of research experience in Biochemistry or Chemical Biology; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances.
