Counselor Student Service Professional, Academic Related I - AR-12mo Job no: 556569 Work type: Non-Instructional Faculty (Coach/Counselor/Librarian) Location: Los Angeles Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Temporary, Full Time, Counselor (Non-instructional Faculty) Position Title: Counselor Student Services Professional, Academic Related I – AR-12mo Student Health Center/ Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management The Counseling and Psychology Services (CAPS) Department in the Student Health Center (SHC) at Cal State LA, is seeking applications for a non-tenure-track/temporary CAPS Faculty Counselor (SSP/AR I/12-mo-3070). The Student Health Center in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Cal State LA, is seeking applications for a full-time, academic related (AR), non-tenure-track CAPS Faculty Counselor. Under general direction, the SSP-AR I/Faculty Counselor performs academic-related professional student services work requiring completion of advanced professional training and significant work experience in the specialty area of counseling and psychological services. This classification encompasses positions of fully trained and experienced professionals whose work demonstrates complete competence and leadership within the department to which assigned. Minimum Qualifications A terminal degree (i.e. a doctorate in behavioral sciences, counseling, psychology or specific related academic field) from an accredited university. Possession of a current California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, or Psychologist. Demonstrated leadership ability and developed skills in brief psychotherapy, crisis intervention, consultation, workshops/group psychotherapy, and outreach. Demonstrated experience providing and coordinating the provision of individual, couples, and group counseling on an independent basis for clients of various ages. Evidence of clinical leadership experience necessary for providing direction and guidance in assessing and treating a broad spectrum of psychological problems, ranging from personal/social adjustment issues to severe emotional disturbances. Demonstrated experience with interventions and clinical case management with complex and high-risk clients. Ability to utilize and demonstrate professional counseling techniques and strategies to meet the needs of a student body with varied backgrounds, cultures, gender identities, ages, sexual orientations, and other diverse qualities. Demonstrated experience handling multicultural, intersectional, and social justice issues and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups. Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and demonstrate ability and interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment. Ability to train and supervise other professionals and paraprofessionals (i.e. associates and/or interns/trainees, practicum students). Applicants should have the ability to relate well to others within the academic environment and demonstrate ability and/or interest in working in a multiethnic, multicultural environment. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in counseling or psychology related field; Two (2) years’ experience working in a college, university or other higher education setting. Demonstrate experience cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of mental health and medical staff and specialist, as well as student, administrators, faculty and staff; Demonstrate ability to develop and support a positive working environment by exhibiting solution-focused, positive, cooperative, and flexible behavior. Demonstrated knowledge of laws and ethics pertaining to the field of mental health. Experience working at a fast pace, handling spontaneous work demands. Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Experience in working with student athletes. Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and training. Duties Clinical Duties: Assume psychological counseling responsibilities by providing a full range of clinical, consultation, and outreach service, including: individual, group, and couples mental health assessment; counseling, psychotherapy, and case management; emergency assessment and crisis intervention; tele-therapy; biopsychosocial/psychological assessment, prevention education; individual, organizational and group consultation; treatment/intervention planning and follow through; referrals to and consulting with other professionals on- and off-campus; Assessment and screening of student athletes for NCAA clearance. Training: Training and onboarding new counselors, training and oversight of Masters Practicum Traineeships (in collaboration with the CAPS Clinical Coordinator) and Post-Graduate Specialization Programs; While also assisting in the development and implementation of procedures and practices for traineeships in groups, workshops, and individual treatment for students in Masters and Doctoral programs. Attending CAPS and other departmental meetings as assigned; Psychoeducation to athletic teams on various wellness topics. Administrative Duties: Timely documentation of case notes and reports in electronic health records; Participation in CAPS peer review and other activities of the SHC Continuous Quality Improvement program; Data collection, reporting, and analysis as well as organize and present data. Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports which are clear, concise and comprehensive. Works closely with the Athletic Department to assist with athletic clearances (i.e. tracking compliance). This position also assists the CAPS department in promoting the health and wellbeing of all Cal State L.A. students and the campus community. The Faculty Counselor ensures the team provides services that are equitable, inclusive, culturally sensitive and enhance the quality of campus life. Selected candidates are required to possess at the time of hire or within 24 months of the start of employment an applicable licensure (such as a licensed psychologist (Ph.D./Psy.D.), licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT)) within the State of California.
