Business Process Automation Engineer – Appian

New York City | Hybrid – 4 Days Onsite / 1 Day Remote

Our client, a leading global investment management firm, is looking for a hands-on Business Process Automation Engineer to help build and scale its enterprise process automation environment.

\n

\n

This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who enjoys being close to the technology while also working directly with business stakeholders. You'll take manual and semi-automated processes and turn them into structured, scalable solutions using Appian .

\n

\n

This is an opportunity to have significant ownership over how automation is designed and implemented across a growing organization.

\n

What You'll Do

\n

\n
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise workflow applications using Appian
\n
• Build Appian process models, records, interfaces, expression rules, forms, reports, and integrations
\n
• Partner directly with business teams to understand existing processes and identify opportunities for automation
\n
• Translate manual processes, spreadsheets, email-based workflows, and disconnected systems into structured applications
\n
• Build and maintain integrations between Appian and enterprise systems using REST/SOAP APIs and other data sources
\n
• Design approval workflows, case-management processes, notifications, SLA monitoring, and escalation frameworks
\n
• Establish scalable standards around process design, security, governance, and reusable components
\n
• Troubleshoot and enhance existing applications and integrations
\n
• Help shape the longer-term automation architecture as the platform grows
\n

You may work on initiatives such as:

• Building an intake and approval workflow for legal document reviews
\n
• Developing operational checklists to ensure critical daily activities are completed
\n
• Creating compliance and tax calendars that track deadlines and missing deliverables
\n
• Automating approval processes and notifications across multiple departments
\n
• Replacing spreadsheet- and email-driven processes with scalable workflow applications
\n

\n

What We're Looking For

\n

\n
• 7+ years of experience in process automation, workflow engineering, or enterprise application development
\n
• Strong hands-on Appian development experience
\n
• Experience building Appian process models, records, interfaces, integrations, and expression rules
\n
• Experience integrating Appian with enterprise systems and APIs
\n
• Strong understanding of workflow automation and business process improvement
\n
• Experience designing approval workflows, case-management solutions, and escalation processes
\n
• Ability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate requirements into technical solutions
\n
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
\n
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Process Management, or a related field
\n

• Appian Certified Developer or Senior Developer certification
\n
• Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate / Power Apps)
\n
• Workato or similar integration/automation platforms
\n
• SQL
\n
• RPA experience, including Appian RPA or UiPath
\n
• Microsoft 365 / SharePoint integration experience
\n
• Experience with AI-enabled workflows, intelligent document processing, or Appian AI capabilities
\n
• Financial services, private equity, legal, or professional services experience
\n

Location & Schedule

This position is based in Midtown Manhattan with a hybrid schedule:

\n

Monday–Thursday onsite | Friday remote

\n

Regular working hours are 8:00 AM–6:00 PM ET .
