About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief Publishing Officer (CPO) to lead the evolution of its publications program. The CPO will be responsible for developing and implementing a market-informed publishing strategy, modernizing publishing operations, and fostering key relationships both within the organization and with select outside partners. This role requires a mission-driven individual with at least 10 years' experience in professional or scholarly publishing, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal publishing, a proven track record in managing a publishing portfolio with significant annual revenue, and experience in all aspects of publishing, from development to sales. The CPO will also be tasked with leading a team, mentoring staff, and integrating the publishing program into the broader organizational goals. Applicants for the Chief Publishing Officer position at the company should possess a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) and have a deep commitment to advocating for equity, particularly for low-income and marginalized communities. The role demands outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to lead change in a mission-aligned manner, and a strong understanding of the publishing industry, including modernizing initiatives and vendor management. Experience in developing and executing publishing strategies, particularly for subscription products with institutional customers, is essential. The successful candidate will be a key leader, working closely with the Executive Director and the senior management team, and will be expected to travel occasionally.
