FULL‑TIME TENURE‑TRACK FACULTY – PHILOSOPHY

Wilbur Wright College, City Colleges of Chicago, seeks an innovative, collaborative, tenure‑track instructor for the Humanities Department. Course Focus The instructor will teach courses such as Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy, and Logic. Expertise in Gender, Women’s, Sexuality Studies and/or Ethnic and Diversity Studies is highly desired. Primary Responsibilities Designs courses and prepares syllabi that have clearly articulated student learning objectives and outcomes that promote active participation. Teaches on‑campus and/or online classes in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of the college. Creates an effective learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and helps students solve problems using discipline‑specific thinking strategies. Helps students reach their academic, personal, and career goals, fosters a safe environment that respects diversity, and encourages active learning. Employs a variety of teaching methods (lectures, discussions, demonstrations, projects, field trips) to meet students’ varying learning needs, abilities, and interests. Works individually with students who need specific assistance, providing regular and useful feedback in an objective, consistent, and timely manner, and evaluates and documents student performance using established criteria. Employs a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of course outcomes. Develops and designs an assessment program that ensures students apply concepts, techniques, and innovations learned in and beyond the classroom. Stays abreast of innovations and current trends in the discipline as they pertain to pedagogy and technology, continuously reflecting on and refining instructional practice. Participates in professional development activities aimed at enhancing teaching excellence. Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings and contributes to campus and district committees. Contributes to and leads in academic and professional communities, promoting collaboration and teamwork. Adheres to City Colleges of Chicago’s student‑centered philosophy, fostering student involvement and commitment. Qualifications Master’s degree in Philosophy (M.A.). Two to three years of teaching experience at the college level (preferred). Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate persuasively with tact and diplomacy. Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment. Experience teaching a diverse, multi‑lingual student population (desired). Commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college. Disposition toward developing the competencies outlined in the City Colleges Academic Excellence Pillars. Knowledge of Brightspace or a similar learning management system (preferred). Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification (preferred). Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Research or teaching preference in Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies and/or Ethnic and Diversity Studies (preferred). Benefits and Compensation Salary: $58,000 – $65,000 annually (9‑month salary range). Benefits information is available at the City Colleges of Chicago Benefits page.
