Pharmacist Clinical Specialist

Job Summary Optimizes patient care by promoting rational, safe, and cost‑effective drug therapy through the development and provision of clinical services in the pharmacy specialty field. Conducts drug therapy monitoring, formulary reviews, and makes pharmaceutical interventions to reduce adverse events. Educates and trains pharmacy staff, residents, students, and other healthcare team members as appropriate for the site. Responsibilities and Requirements Provides pharmaceutical care in the specialty practice area, including review of patient drug and medical histories and making drug therapy recommendations to optimize care. Offers drug information, evaluates medical literature, participates in clinical rounding with other healthcare providers, performs drug utilization reviews, and counsels patients. Plans, implements, performs, and measures clinical processes that improve treatment outcomes, minimize adverse drug events, and contribute to quality and financial outcomes. Coordinates drug utilization evaluations, analyzes trends, and synthesizes data into reports for committee action. Creates a culture of learning and sharing that supports the development of qualified clinical staff through coaching, motivation, and empowerment. Implements staff development on clinical processes and participates in the training of pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and healthcare providers as appropriate for the site. Promotes interdisciplinary teamwork, including development and implementation of clinical pathways and protocols that support medication safety and utilization based on evidence‑based recommendations. Maintains a constant state of alertness and works safely. Performs other duties as assigned. Education Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.; Bachelor of Pharmacy) from an accredited school of pharmacy. Experience Two years of experience or completion of a PGY1 residency. Physical Requirements Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25lbs. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20inches or less) and far (20feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. Frequent keyboard use/data entry. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping. Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50lbs. Rare climbing. Required Professional License and/or Certifications Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) required within 90 days of employment. State of work location: Oklahoma Pharmacist license and applicable board certifications.
