Surgical Technologist Coordinator

Reporting to and working collaboratively with the Service Line Leader, performs a variety of duties in the operating room to assist the surgical team in becoming more efficient for that specific service line. Acts as the designated lead to help facilitate service line operations when the Service Line Lead is not available. Responsibilities Assist in preparing operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and properly stored. Act as a clinical resource for onboarding new employees – nurses, surgical technologists, and contracted scrub labor – and validating their skills. Align staff competencies to case complexity. Serve as dedicated liaison to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and collaborate on tray optimization, maintaining tray location and weight limits, converting trays to rigid containers, establishing universal tray naming, daily validation of case cart completeness, and building new instrument trays to support service line growth. Interface with vendors to ensure tray availability and timely arrival for sterilization. Provide content expertise and scrub the spectrum of surgical cases within the scope of the service line when needed. Assist in removing unused supplies from the surgery cart and storing them appropriately. Stock surgical supplies in operating rooms and storage areas; perform other duties as designated by the Service Line Leader. Work with Clinical Managers in the absence of the Service Line Lead to facilitate case placement to maintain flow. Assist the Service Line Leader in reviewing and maintaining preference cards. Minimum Qualifications Must meet the requirements of a Surgical Technologist: completion of an accredited surgical technologist program or associate degree, current certification as a CST or NCCT-TC, or 3 years of experience within the past 5 years; a high school diploma or GED is required. Extensive knowledge in orthopedic surgery (orthopedic trauma, oncology, spine surgery). Minimum of 5 years experience as a Surgical Technologist from an academic, Level One Trauma Center, with at least 2 years in specialty. Knowledge of various surgical equipment and aseptic techniques; ability to operate sterilization equipment. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life-span, considering aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Required to work in a sterile environment and regularly exposed to cuts, punctures from surgical instruments, burns from autoclaves, anesthesia gases, odors and communicable diseases from patients. Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients and to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures. Supervisory Responsibilities In the absence of the Service Line Lead, may temporarily perform supervisory responsibilities.
