At the highest level, the Nursery Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and hands-on support to the nursery teams for all propagation activities. This role will support the widest array of crop development and work on establishing robust plants from all forms including seed, tissue culture, cuttings, and other sources. The individual in this position will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance of nursery operations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Daily Management of Production Teams: Oversee all cultivation operations, ensuring smooth daily functioning of production teams.
• METRC Data Entry: Proficiently work on METRC and ensure accurate data entry.
• Production Scheduling: Project production schedules for mother plants and manage production plans, schedules, and daily tasks.
• Spreadsheet and Systems Management: Create schedules using spreadsheets, Google Sheets, and internal systems.
• Plant Maintenance and Programs: Execute plant maintenance, fertigation programs, integrated pest management (IPM), and related activities.
• Quality Control: Follow quality control measures to ensure the highest quality products.
• Production Forecasting: Forecast production needs and create schedules accordingly.
• Relationship Management: Maintain relationships with tissue culture laboratories and manage mother stock replacement schedules.
• Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with external customers.
• R&D Support: Assist and facilitate R&D and breeding team trials.
• Team Management: Supervise a team of four leads overseeing different departments.
• Pest Management: Implement best IPM practices and environmental control techniques to manage pest pressure.
• Facility Maintenance: Report facility repairs and maintenance projects as needed.
• Regulatory Compliance: Maintain safety programs and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Employee Training: Train new employees in cultivation techniques and activities.
• Staff Scheduling and Performance Evaluation: Schedule staff, assign work, maintain personnel records, and provide input into performance evaluations.
• Adherence to SOPs: Follow and implement nursery Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure proper quality control. Develop and update SOPs and enforce strict adherence throughout the facility.
• Other Duties: Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Cultivation.
The Candidate Must Have:
• Exceptional leadership abilities with a talent for inspiring and motivating team members.
• Demonstrated adaptability and adeptness at multitasking, with a proven track record of thriving in fast-paced environments.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in nursery management.
• Proficiency in nursery growing systems, with a deep understanding of their operation and maintenance.
• Comprehensive knowledge of fertigation and irrigation systems, including injectors, pH balance, EC levels, and related parameters.
• Expertise in the safe handling and application of chemicals, such as fertilizers and organic pesticides.
• Experience working with automated climate control greenhouse systems, including familiarity with ventilation, blackout curtains, light exposure management, temperature, and humidity regulation.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with strong communication skills in both languages.
• Ability to operate effectively within a tightly controlled track-and-trace environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Science, or a related field with an agricultural emphasis preferred.
• Positive demeanor and ability to remain composed under pressure.
• Strict adherence to a zero-tolerance policy regarding recreational cannabis use or any other substance abuse during work hours.
• Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional hours may be required as business needs dictate.
Rotating weekends as needed.
