Job Title Garifuna Interpreter – Phone Interpreter (Work from Home, United States) Position Details Status: Independent Contractor Pay: $0.75 – $0.90 per minute Location: Work at Home (United States) We Offer: Employee Referral Program. Position Overview The Garifuna Telephone Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand and rendering the meaning of conversations between Garifuna and English speakers across multiple industries. Essential Job Functions Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner. Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions. Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation and polite expressions. Maintain a professional and calm demeanor throughout sessions, even during emergency situations such as 911 calls. Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours. Follow client instructions in compliance with protocol, ensuring client expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP) and avoiding interaction with the LEP without the client’s permission. Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including, but not limited to, Medical, Insurance, Finance and Law. Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and diversity. Be capable of handling highly emotional or stressful calls, remaining on calls for extended periods if required by the nature of the call or high call volume. Qualifications Fluency in Garifuna and English, with cultural competency to navigate regional and accent differences. Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills to maintain high accuracy during interpretation. Ability to concentrate, stay detached, remain neutral and objective, even when dealing with sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life discussions, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, or matters concerning sexual orientation and/or gender expression. Education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation (preferred). Minimum 18 years of age. Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring future visa sponsorship. High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to read and write in the requested languages (highly preferred). Readiness to adapt to any LanguageLine Solutions technology enhancements to improve service delivery and meet client demands. Technical Requirements Dedicated personal device for business purposes. Desktop or laptop computer with Windows, MacOS, or ChromeOS. Tablets (iPadOS or Android) and smartphones (iOS or Android) are acceptable. Prohibited brands: Kaspersky products, Huawei hardware. High‑speed internet connection: download ≥5Mbps, upload ≥3Mbps, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms. Access to a quiet space free from background noise or distraction. Physical Requirements Operate keyboard and mouse and remain stationary in front of a computer for most of the workday. Operate company software and systems for all job functions. Sufficient manual dexterity to type or write. Able to lift up to 26lbs. May be exposed to moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone).
