The HR / Payroll Coordinator supports Human Resources operations by processing payroll, maintaining accurate employee records, and assisting with HR functions. This role requires discretion, strong attention to detail, and the ability to interact professionally and courteously with employees and the public.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Process payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees accurately and on schedule.
- Review and verify timesheets for accuracy and policy compliance.
- Process employee status changes (new hires, promotions, transfers, separations) with proper approvals and documentation.
- Maintain accurate payroll and personnel records in automated systems.
- Assist with HR reporting, audits, and tracking key HR metrics.
- Provide professional, service-oriented assistance to employees and the public.
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Experience with automated payroll and timekeeping systems (e.g., Incode 10, ERP Pro 10, Tyler Munis, ADP, Ceridian, Workday).
- Knowledge of bookkeeping, general accounting, and payroll practices.
- Understanding of HR laws, metrics, and best practices.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and confidentiality standards.
- Experience with report preparation, audits, and documentation.
- Municipal experience is required
- Budgeting or financial management is a plus.
- Associate degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field and two (2) years of HR or payroll experience preferred
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
