Assistant Professor in Sustainability Engineering Position Title: Assistant Professor in Sustainability Engineering Posting Number: 2026086TTL Location: San Marcos Position Description Faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Ingram School of Engineering, focused on Sustainability Engineering. This tenure‑track role is supported by the university’s Run to R1 initiative and seeks to strengthen research and teaching in sustainability. Responsibilities Increase the research capabilities of the Ingram School of Engineering in sustainability. Demonstrate a strong commitment to student‑centered teaching and mentorship at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Collaborate with faculty across the Ingram School of Engineering, the College of Science and Engineering, and other Texas State departments. Contribute to curriculum and program development. Build partnerships with external stakeholders, including industry professionals, government agencies, national labs, and corporations. Engage in university and professional service and participate in shared governance of the school. Possess expertise in one or more research areas: synthesis, characterization and applications of composites and nanocomposites; and sustainable materials for environmental remediations. Required Qualifications Earned doctorate in mechanical and energy engineering or closely related discipline. At least three years of experience teaching at a four‑year institution as an instructor of record. Demonstrated potential to build a sustainable and impactful research program in sustainable engineering and related areas. Experience serving on MS and PhD thesis/dissertation committees. Effective oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Experience in patent filing, innovation‑related activities, and entrepreneurship. Preferred Qualifications Expertise in conducting research in one or more of the following areas: synthesis, characterization and applications of composites and nanocomposites; and sustainable materials for environmental remediations. Proven ability to secure external funding. Evidence of collaboration with faculty of the Civil and Mechanical Engineering program or across the Ingram School of Engineering and the broader Texas State community.
