Description Job Title: Advanced Practitioner Provider Manager (NP), NICU - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day The Advanced Practice Nursing Manager is responsible for coordination and assurance of comprehensive health care using advanced practice nursing process and pertinent standards of care. The role involves diagnosis of illness and physical conditions, performance of diagnostic, therapeutic, corrective and prescriptive measures in collaboration with appropriate specialty and site‑based physicians. The APN Manager delivers operational leadership to Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in inpatient and ambulatory settings, fostering clinical integration, optimizing workflows and supporting excellence in advanced practice care. The APN Manager supervises and directs a designated group of advanced practice nurses within distinct specialty areas of practice. These APNs may diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient’s condition within their specialty area of practice, which may include but are not limited to acute care, adult health, college health, community health, family health, gerontology, holistic nursing, neonatology, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, palliative care, pediatrics, perinatology, psychiatry, school health, and women’s health. The manager optimizes APN clinical practice within a service line, promotes patient‑centered care, and serves as a liaison to nursing, medicine, department chairs/chiefs, care management, administration, and other leadership. The manager ensures APNs meet institutional compliance with regulatory agencies. In addition, the APN Manager oversees administrative operations related to designated Physician Assistants (PAs), including workflow optimization and scheduling. While the manager provides leadership in administrative domains, clinical oversight and accountability for PA practice remain under the purview of the designated MD supervisor and PA lead. Responsibilities Clinical Practice Assesses the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. Initiates selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examinations, prescribes medication regimens, interprets findings and alters plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines. Educates and counsels in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Documents findings and plan of care in the patient’s medical record. Consults with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care. Participates in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. Performs a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion, but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and the bylaws of the Hospital Staff. Maintains current expertise in area of practice. Administrative Collaborates with the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) and Chair or Service Chief of the respective clinical department in the recruitment, retention, and human resource management of APPs assigned to the respective service. Evaluates APN staff performance, mentors, coaches, counsels and disciplines staff up to and including termination. Manages, guides and monitors APNs and interdisciplinary team members (including PAs) related to scheduling, assignments, and coordination of services. Prepares, implements and monitors budgets, including capital equipment allocation, budget variances, and management of OT and vacancies according to MSHS financial goals. Maintains control of established positions and manages the recruitment and retention of qualified staff. Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure communication with staff about progress, changes and compliance with all hospital policies and procedures. Facilitates the onboarding and orientation as well as ongoing professional development of nurse practitioners. Coordinates clinical activities of APNs to accomplish established safety and quality measures. Provides leadership and develops effective team building. Sets departmental goals in collaboration with division chief and other key personnel. Demonstrates knowledge of and commitment to service excellence; role models Mount Sinai Service Standards. Participates in relevant hospital‑wide committees. Acts as a liaison between inpatient and outpatient areas to assure continuity of care. Reviews FPPE/OPPE of Advanced Practice Nurses on the assigned service. Engages with collaborating physicians, division chief and department administrators to ensure that clinical practice and systems are supportive of clinical care. Promotes utilization of APNs to optimize their scope of clinical practice. Professional Practice Supports and role models the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing, the institution of practice and MSHS. Promotes own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial roles. Participates in the development and monitoring of patient outcomes per established practice protocols for the purpose of quality and performance improvement. Serves as a clinical role model and resource to the nursing and clinical staff. Serves as a professional resource to other members of the health care team. Uses evidence‑based health care literature to advise and support appropriate practice changes within the designated service. Participates in Service Line Quality and Performance Improvement meetings. Participates in APN‑related meetings and committees. Demonstrates professional involvement by attending and participating in workshops, seminars, and courses as presenter or author. Keeping abreast of current literature and trends in practice. Participating in related professional organizations. Considers ethical issues in professional nursing practice. Treats co‑workers, patients and families with dignity and respect. Maintains attendance and punctuality record in accordance with departmental standards. Adheres to the dress code in accordance with departmental policy. Qualifications Master’s degree in nursing required. DNP preferred. 5+ years minimum of relevant clinical advanced practice nursing. Previous nursing leadership and management experience preferred. Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Current certification and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State. Current license and registration as a Professional Registered Nurse in NY State. National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required. Credentialed and privileged as APN at the respective site of practice. Compensation The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $127,044 - $190,565 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
