Medical Billing Assistant

The Medical Billing Assistant supports the billing team by assisting with the preparation, submission, and follow-up of laboratory claims. This role helps ensure accurate billing, timely payments, and compliance with healthcare regulations while providing administrative support to the laboratory billing department. Key Responsibilities Assist with preparing and submitting laboratory claims to insurance carriers Verify patient demographic and insurance information Enter and update billing data in billing systems and EHR/LIS platforms Review claims for accuracy and completeness prior to submission Assist with payment posting and tracking of accounts receivable Help follow up on denied or unpaid claims under supervision Respond to basic billing inquiries from patients and insurance companies Maintain organized and confidential billing records Support audits and compliance requirements as needed Qualifications Required: High school diploma or equivalent Basic knowledge of medical billing or healthcare administration Strong data entry and organizational skills Attention to detail and accuracy Ability to handle confidential information in compliance with HIPAA Preferred: Previous experience in medical billing, preferably in a laboratory or healthcare setting Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes Experience with billing software, EHR, or laboratory information systems (LIS) Certification or coursework in medical billing or coding Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail Basic understanding of insurance processes Good written and verbal communication skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Team-oriented with a willingness to learn #J-18808-Ljbffr
