Controller — Real Estate Accounting

Bullpen is partnering with a growing real estate investment and operating company to hire a Controller to lead accounting across its properties, investments, and corporate entities.

\n

\n

This is an opportunity for a Controller, Assistant Controller, or experienced Accounting Manager who enjoys owning the numbers, leading a team, and improving how an accounting function operates. You’ll work directly with company leadership, oversee internal and external accounting resources, and bring structure and consistency to a growing platform.

\n

We’re looking for someone with strong multi-entity accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close experience, ideally within real estate, property management, development, construction, or investment management.

\n

What You’ll Do

\n

\n
• Own the close and financial reporting: Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; prepare and review financial statements, consolidations, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
\n
• Oversee accounting operations: Manage property and corporate accounting, including AP/AR, cash management, general ledger activity, and intercompany transactions.
\n
• Lead accounting resources: Supervise internal staff and oversee third-party and offshore providers, setting clear expectations for accuracy, deadlines, and accountability.
\n
• Support real estate activity: Ensure accurate accounting for property operations, acquisitions, development projects, capital expenditures, and investments.
\n
• Strengthen processes and controls: Improve accounting policies, workflows, systems, and reporting as the business grows.
\n
• Partner with leadership and operations: Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis while helping property and operating teams resolve accounting issues.
\n
• Coordinate external reporting: Work with outside CPAs on tax and audit requirements and oversee lender and investor financial reporting.

What We’re Looking For

\n

\n
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience , including team leadership or ownership of a significant accounting function.
\n
• Strong command of GAAP, financial statements, month-end close, and general ledger accounting .
\n
• Experience with multiple entities, intercompany transactions, and consolidated reporting .
\n
• Ability to review others’ work while remaining comfortable preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and resolving accounting issues yourself.
\n
• Experience supervising accounting staff or managing external accounting providers.
\n
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems.
\n
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
\n

• Real estate, property management, construction, development, or investment management accounting.
\n
• Improving accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting.
\n
• CPA designation is a plus, but not required .
\n
