Accounting Specialist – Contract

Location: Seattle, WA

Work Arrangement: Hybrid — 2–3 days per week in office (Tuesday–Thursday preferred)

Pay Rate: $35–$40 per hour

Engagement Type: Contract

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Specialist to join our team on a contract basis. This role will support a variety of accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, quarterly reporting, audit support, and other accounting responsibilities as needed.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who works well independently, takes ownership of their work, and demonstrates strong attention to detail . Candidates with previous successful contract experience are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely.
• Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Support quarterly reporting activities and related accounting processes.
• Assist with month-end and other period-end close activities.
• Prepare and maintain accounting workpapers and supporting documentation.
• Support internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation and providing information as needed.
• Review and analyze accounting data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel and accounting systems to analyze, reconcile, and maintain financial information.
• Perform accounting activities within SAP , including data entry, reporting, and financial transaction support.
• Assist with various accounting projects and tasks as assigned.
• Collaborate with accounting and cross-functional teams to meet deadlines and resolve issues.

Required Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Accounting degree strongly preferred.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility.
• Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations .
• Experience using Microsoft Excel for accounting and financial analysis.
• Experience working with SAP or a similar enterprise accounting/ERP system.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Previous successful contract experience strongly preferred .

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Experience supporting month-end close activities, particularly within a large organization.
• Industry-specific accounting experience.
• Experience reviewing accounting workpapers.
• Experience supporting quarterly reporting and audit activities.
• Experience working with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) is a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills, including experience with formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis, are a plus.
