Senior AccountantBring your drive for excellence, team orientation, and customer commitment to Independence; help us renew and reimagine our business and shape the future of health care.The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Corporate Accounting department, supporting core accounting activities that ensure accurate and timely financial results for Independence Health Group and its subsidiaries. The role includes a blend of general accounting, financial close responsibilities, and support for reporting and regulatory requirements, which may involve financial reporting, general ledger management, operational accounting support, consolidations, and participation in special projects based on departmental needs. This position provides the opportunity to build deep subject matter expertise while working collaboratively across the department to deliver consistent and reliable financial information. Using strong accounting knowledge, analytical skills, and a continuous improvement mindset, the Senior Accountant contributes to the overall effectiveness and quality of the Corporate Accounting function.Responsibilities:Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and preparation of supporting schedules/reportsSupport the preparation of financial information, including internal management reporting and external GAAP/Statutory reporting as neededAssist with regulatory filings and compliance activities relevant to the health insurance industryPerform detailed general ledger analyses and investigations to understand activity, trends, and variances; recommend and implement corrective actions where neededSupport operational accounting functions such as premium, medical claim cost, administrative expense, intercompany, or other business-specific accounting activitiesCollaborate with team members to provide responses to inquiries regarding assigned general ledger accounts and key transactionsEnsure transactions are recorded in accordance with applicable accounting guidance and company policiesParticipate in external audit activities, serving as a point of contact for assigned areas and managing audit deliverables and documentationAssist with the maintenance and enhancement of accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls, including Model Audit Rule (MAR) documentationPrepare non-standard analyses, reports, and financial models for assigned areas, with guidance as needed, to support business partners and leadershipSupport cross-functional initiatives, system enhancements, and special projects involving financial data, general ledger activity, or process improvementsEnsure deadlines and quality standards are met consistently across all assigned responsibilitiesQualifications:Strong knowledge of general accounting practices and principlesAbility to apply accounting concepts across a range of day-to-day activitiesStrong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilitiesEffective written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholdersExperience with large ERP systems such as PeopleSoft and comfort working with financial data toolsProficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Comfortable exploring and adopting new technologies, including AI-assisted tools, to enhance efficiency and accuracyDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlinesInterest and ability to identify, recommend, and implement process improvementsEducation & Experience:BS/BA in AccountingCPA or progress toward CPA preferredFive or more years of progressively responsible accounting experienceIndependence has implemented a "Hybrid" model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the "Hybrid" model.
