POSITION SUMMARY The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting and managing day-to-day human resources operations for Housing Forward. This role administers core HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, policy administration, performance management support, compliance, records management, and HR program coordination. The HR Generalist helps foster a positive, compliant, and effective work environment while ensuring HR practices align with organizational goals, values, and applicable employment laws and regulations. This position serves as a key resource for employees and managers, providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices. The HR Generalist is expected to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Administer and manage the recruitment process, screening applicants, coordinating interviews, and supporting candidate selection
• Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and identify qualified candidates
• Help develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract high-quality and mission-aligned talent
• Coordinate candidate communications and ensure a positive candidate experience throughout the hiring process 2. Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle Administration
• Assist in new hire orientation and facilitate onboarding processes for new employees
• Provide support for employee transitions including hires, internal changes, and separations 3. Employee Relations & Manager Support
• Respond to employee relations matters and provide guidance to employees and supervisors on HR policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
• Support management in addressing performance, conduct, and workplace issues in a timely and consistent manner
• Promote a positive work environment that reflects Housing Forward's values and culture
• Help maintain fair, respectful, and legally compliant employee practices 4. Performance Management & Employee Development
• Support training sessions and employee development activities on HR-related topics, such as workplace expectations, diversity, harassment prevention, and performance management
• Contribute to initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and organizational effectiveness 5. HR Policies, Compliance & Risk Management
• Assist in the development, implementation, communication, and ongoing maintenance of HR policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor and employment laws and regulations
• Maintain employment records in accordance with legal, organizational, and audit requirements
• Support internal HR audits, compliance reviews, and documentation efforts
• Help identify and address potential HR-related risks through consistent process administration and policy application 6. Benefits & HR Operations
• Support administration of employee benefits programs, including employee communications, enrollment assistance, and general issue resolution
• Maintain accurate HR files, records, and system data
• Prepare reports, track HR metrics, and support HR operational processes as needed
• Participate in HR projects and process improvement efforts to strengthen departmental effectiveness and service delivery 7. Organizational Support & Culture
• Contribute to a workplace culture grounded in dignity, respect, service, accountability, and collaboration
• Support HR initiatives aligned with Housing Forward's mission, strategic priorities, and organizational growth
• Partner across departments to ensure HR practices support effective operations and employee success
• Perform other HR-related duties and special projects as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Ideal candidates will have demonstrated capabilities in the following areas:
• Human Resources Operations & Compliance: Knowledge of core human resources practices and applicable employment laws, with the ability to apply policies, maintain accurate records, and support compliant HR operations across the employee lifecycle.
• Talent Acquisition & Employee Lifecycle Support: Ability to support recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes in a way that is organized, responsive, and aligned with the organization's talent needs and employee experience goals.
• Employee Relations & Workplace Support: Ability to build trusted relationships, respond to employee concerns with discretion and sound judgment, and support a respectful, inclusive, and positive work environment.
• Communication & Interpersonal Effectiveness: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, facilitate discussions and trainings, and interact effectively with employees, managers, and external stakeholders. • Organization, Problem Solving & Execution: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems effectively, and follow through on HR processes in a fast-paced environment. • Technology & Data Management: Proficiency in HRIS platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and other business technologies, with the ability to maintain accurate data, generate reports, and support efficient HR operations. • Mission Alignment & Cultural Competence: Commitment to Housing Forward's mission and values, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, service-oriented environment and engage all individuals with dignity and respect EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required or preferred, as determined by Housing Forward
• Professional HR certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP preferred
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a human resources role required
• Experience supporting a nonprofit, human services, housing, healthcare, behavioral health, or similarly complex service-oriented environment preferred
• Experience with employee relations, recruitment, compliance, and HR operations strongly preferred

- WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work Environment & Work Hazards
• Housing Forward's normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Some evening and weekend meetings may be required to meet the needs of partner agencies or represent Housing Forward at community meetings
• Employees work in a hybrid environment, with both remote and in-office work expectations
• Current organizational guidelines require employees to work at least three days per week in the office, subject to change
• Work is primarily performed in a standard office and hybrid work environment with minimal physical risk; hazards may include extended computer use, repetitive motion, eye strain, and general office-related hazards such as slips, trips, and falls.
• Limited local travel may expose the employee to routine transportation-related risks and occasional lifting or movement of office materials up to 25 pounds.
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate Physical Requirements

- The salary for this position is $63,000 - $87,000
• Housing Forward has a flexible PTO policy for all full-time employees. The office is officially closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, & Christmas Day. Housing Forward has MLK Jr., Juneteenth, and Election Day as Days of Service.
