Registered Nurse Telemetry

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical/Surgical Telemetry (MS/Tele) unit is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care to patients with cardiac disease, stroke, infection, pain, and pulmonary embolism. This role requires competency in phlebotomy, IV placement, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of rapid response teams. The RN will manage peripheral lines, non-invasive airway support, and isolation precautions while collaborating with the healthcare team and utilizing specialized equipment such as bladder scanners, telemetry, EKG machines, and lifepacks. The position demands strong clinical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with patient ratios varying by shift.

Responsibilities:

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license valid in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience, preferably in Medical/Surgical Telemetry or related acute care settings.
• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and intravenous line placement.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Ability to interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias.
• Experience with peripheral line care and non-invasive airway management.
• Proficiency with electronic health records, EPIC preferred.
• Driver's license, car insurance, and automobile if required for field work.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in ICU, Emergency Department, or acute brain injury care.
• Familiarity with use of rapid response teams and specialized equipment such as bladder scanners and lifepacks.
• Previous experience with telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation.
• Comfort working with isolation precautions and oxygen therapy devices.

Special Considerations:

• Patient-to-nurse ratios: Day/evening shifts 5:1 (stretch 6-7), night shifts 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff call-ins).
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
• Float assignments include MS, ED, ICU (stable patients), and acute brain injury units.
• Open to block scheduling accommodations, though not guaranteed.
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions require proximity within one week's travel; no local hires within 75 miles.
• Uniform scrubs required: navy blue or white.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule includes day, evening, and night shifts with patient ratios varying accordingly.
• Every other weekend work is required.
• Shift assignments may include block schedules subject to availability and operational needs.
