Your Specific Responsibilities: This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensure proper coverage, and complete timesheets. This is a highly responsible and technical position that reports directly to the Viral Hepatitis and Outbreak Response Section (VHORS) Administrator within the Bureau of Communicable Disease. The incumbent is an experienced public health professional who serves as the subject matter expert for outbreak response activities for viral hepatitis, HIV, and other communicable diseases of interest. The position manages the HIV Cluster Detection and Response Program and epidemiological investigations of viral hepatitis B, C, and D. The position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, direction, training, and continuous assessment of disease transmission and intervention principles to mitigate outbreaks, and will guide the team regarding messaging, problem-solving, and other interventions to interrupt ongoing disease transmission. The position is responsible for the quality and timeliness of work and is responsible for establishing protocols and guidelines related to outbreak response activities. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to supervise and lead a team. Understand and apply the current principles, practices, methods, literature, and new developments in the field of community disease control, the principles and practices of epidemiology, and biostatistics. Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data in epidemiologic reports. Ability to speak before public groups, both professional and non-professional, makes complex medical information understandable to audiences and use statistical software SAS, PowerPoint, Excel, Access. etc. Ability to think critically Qualifications: Minimum – Experience providing technical assistance to collaborating entities by developing policies and procedures Experience providing consultative services and direction for development, implementation, evaluation and expansion of programs of service in public agencies and local government.
