Group Life Coordinator Pool - Eastern Oregon Youth Correctional Facility

Job Title: Group Life Coordinator 2 Burns, Oregon – Eastern Oregon Youth Correctional Facility Responsibilities Coaching, confronting, and correcting youth behavior as necessary. Observing, evaluating, and recording youth behavior, attitude, and performance, including attendance and participation in treatment groups, recreational activities, vocational/educational programs, and community service projects. Preparing Youth Incident Reports (YIRs) and documenting any unusual incidents or critical events. Assigning, training, and supervising youth who perform various chores and jobs within the facility, such as maintenance, kitchen work, laundry, landscaping, and janitorial duties. Supervising youth performing community‑based work crew activities when appropriate. Monitoring youth offenders for potential health and safety risks, including suicide prevention. Conducting security inspections and searches of the facility, grounds, and state vehicles. Administering medication to youth (under indirect supervision of medical staff) and maintaining contact with medical staff to ensure appropriate medical care for the youth. Providing secure transport of youth to appointments within the community as needed. Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; six months full‑time experience observing, evaluating, developing, and monitoring human behavior and performance; OR a certificate or associate degree from an accredited school in behavioral science, education, criminal justice, or a related field. At least 21 years of age, valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record. Required to pass a Physical Abilities Test (PAT) covering strength, agility, and vision/hearing requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to handle, feel, and use both hands with finger dexterity. Ability to move, carry or hold objects weighing from 6 lb up to 165 lb over a maximum of 54 ft. Ability to kneel, bend, turn, stand, sit, reach, and crawl. Perform 15 step‑ups on a 12‑inch stepping platform. Run or jog 100 yards. Hold body weight in push‑up position for 50 seconds. Hold a 6‑lb medicine ball at chest level with arms extended for 40 seconds. Complete the above circuit twice with a 1‑minute break between sessions. Acceptable vision of at least 20/30 and peripheral vision 160 degrees; binaural hearing 500‑2000 Hz and 20‑60 dB. Working Conditions OYA facilities are tobacco‑free. Shift work in a 24‑hour, 7‑day operation, with night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Frequent exposure to verbal abuse, threats, and impulsive, rebellious, assaultive youth. Reasonable force may be used in emergencies. Physical standards: vision, hearing, dexterity, push/pull, running, and jogging. Transport youth as requested and operate state vehicles if in a security position. Dress code: as per work site.
