Pharmacy Manager - Pharmacy - Full-Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt)

Overview Under general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Clinical Pharmacy Manager manages the clinical pharmacy program, including developing, monitoring, evaluating, and coordinating clinical pharmacy services that promote desirable patient outcomes. The manager collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to identify and resolve problems, address cost containment, implement new clinical programs and protocols, and develop systems and performance measures, including attending committee meetings. The position includes formulary management, protocol development, policy and procedure creation, medication evaluation, and standardization of medical care for the department, including peer review of dosing protocols. Other duties may include supervision of clinical activities and training of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy students. Responsibilities Oversee and participate in the orientation, instruction, training, and supervision of pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy students; plan and participate in pharmacist development; provide in-service educational programs on the therapeutic aspects of patient care to pharmacists and other health professionals. Update pharmacy staff on the development and implementation of pharmacy-specific policies and procedures as well as hospital policies and procedures affecting the pharmacy department. Manage non-formulary drug requests and participate in Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee activities. Establish productive, collaborative relationships with medical center staff, other hospital departments, and strategic business unit leaders to promote cooperation and efficiency in providing and meeting patients\' pharmaceutical care needs. Develop and implement new clinical pharmacy services; ensure continuity of ongoing clinical programs; plan and conduct clinical services that integrate with the department\'s distributive requirements. Manage and mentor pharmacists in standard approaches to patient monitoring and problem solving; monitor pharmacist activities related to utilization surveillance and clinical activities and provide instruction as needed. Assist physicians with drug selection and therapeutic regimens; provide drug information to ensure appropriate drug therapy. Coordinate and implement educational training and competency programs for pharmacists and pharmacy residents. Develop communication systems to respond to problems or emergency requests from patient care units. Regularly conduct and/or review inspections of medication use areas; monitor drug therapy using patient profiles and medical records to assess accuracy, drug interactions, adverse reactions, contraindications, allergies, and sensitivities in assigned areas. Contribute to revenue cycle understanding and improvement within the department; identify cost avoidance opportunities by promoting cost-effective regimens and reducing waste; develop evaluation methods to determine patient-care impact and cost-effectiveness of clinical and distributive services; report results to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Develop and implement system changes in response to adverse drug events, findings from MUEs and literature reports, and occurrence reports; participate in departmental quality assurance programs. Facilitate development, implementation, and maintenance of the clinical pharmacy program, including treatment protocols, formulary changes, and clinical pathways. Maintain and improve systems of medication distribution; ensure appropriate drug utilization by interacting with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, patients, and others to provide accurate data, problem solving, and drug information, with sound recommendations. Develop and monitor hospital policies and procedures regarding medication utilization in collaboration with the medical staff and Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee; coordinate the hospital\'s Formulary and related P&T activities. Monitor drug therapy using patient information to ensure accuracy and safety, including adverse events and contraindications. Support the Director by contributing to operational systems and procedures for the Pharmacy Department\'s Clinical Division aligned with Joint Commission and state hospital codes. Manage data review and compilation related to adverse drug events; establish and maintain policies for safe compounding of sterile and non-sterile products and for the security of controlled substances. Maintain effective control of inventory and minimize lost patient charges; perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Clinical pharmacy leadership experience with demonstrated ability to manage a clinical pharmacy program and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Experience in formulary management, protocol development, policy creation, and quality improvement activities. Strong supervision, mentoring, and educational program delivery skills; ability to train pharmacists, technicians, and students. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities; proficiency in interpreting drug information and providing patient-centered therapy recommendations. Knowledge of regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards, and hospital code policies related to medication use and safety.
