Immigration Paralegal

Job Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Immigration Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys with immigration cases, ensuring that all documentation is accurately prepared and filed in a timely manner. This position requires strong organizational skills, a solid understanding of immigration law, and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously. Job Summary: The Immigration Paralegal supports attorneys in preparing and managing immigration cases, including family-based and employment-based immigration petitions, deportation defense, asylum, and other immigration-related matters. The role requires detailed knowledge of U.S. immigration law, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously. Key Responsibilities Case Preparation and Management Prepare and draft immigration forms, petitions, and applications, including but not limited to family-based petitions, work visas, adjustment of status, asylum, and naturalization applications, employment based visa. Assist in the preparation of supporting documentation and ensure accuracy and completeness of all filings. Manage deadlines and track the progress of cases from start to completion, coordinating with clients and the attorney on case developments. Client Communication Act as a point of contact for clients to provide updates on case status and answer routine questions. Schedule and prepare clients for interviews, providing information about the immigration process and what to expect. Translate documents and conversations as needed if bilingual, aiding non-English-speaking clients. Legal Research and Documentation Conduct research on immigration regulations and updates, staying informed of changes in immigration laws and policies. Collect, review, and organize client documentation, including visas, passports, and other essential paperwork. Organize and maintain client files, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with firm protocols and immigration regulations. Administrative Duties File and maintain physical and electronic case files in accordance with firm and legal requirements. Prepare and send letters, emails, and notifications to clients regarding case developments or requests for additional information. Manage billing for immigration services, tracking hours and costs associated with each case. Court and USCIS Representation Support Coordinate with government agencies such as USCIS and Department of Homeland Security for case follow-ups. Assist in the preparation of legal briefs, motions, and responses for court filings or responses to Requests for Evidence (RFEs). Attend client interviews and court hearings if required, alongside the attorney, to provide support. Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on immigration law preferred. Skills: Strong knowledge of immigration procedures and forms (e.g., I-130, I-485, I-765, H-1B, PERM). Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in legal drafting. Bilingual abilities (Spanish or other languages) are a strong plus. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Proficient with legal software and case management tools. Duties Assist attorneys with the preparation and filing of immigration petitions and applications. Manage legal case files, ensuring all documents are organized and up-to-date. Conduct research on immigration laws and regulations, including tribal law regulations. Communicate effectively with clients via phone and email, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette. Draft legal documents, contracts, and correspondence as needed. Utilize document management systems to maintain accurate records of case progress. Collaborate with team members on project management tasks related to ongoing cases. Provide support in areas such as personal injury law, estate planning, and securities law when required. Requirements Proven experience as a paralegal or in a similar role within a legal environment. Familiarity with legal case management software and document management systems. Strong understanding of immigration law and procedures. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. Proficient in drafting legal documents and contracts. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting. Strong written and verbal communication skills. A proactive approach to problem-solving and attention to detail is essential.
