The Opportunity

FairSquare is building the financial engine that lets small businesses across America access capital on fair, transparent terms. Through our brands, we fund merchants nationwide with a diversified suite of alternative finance products and we have been a recognized industry leader for over 25 years.

Growth paired with profitability is won or lost on financial discipline. We are looking for a Chief Financial Officer who can bring rigor to our unit economics, credibility to our forecast, and durability to our balance sheet. This is not a caretaker CFO role. You will sit at the center of how we price, how we fund, how we underwrite performance, and how we decide where to place the next dollar.

You will partner closely with the President and the executive team to drive profitable growth, manage liquidity, maximize investments, and engage the capital markets when the moment is right.

What You'll Own

Unit economics and forecasting. Build and defend the unit economics of every product and channel: acquisition cost, yield, loss, servicing, and contribution margin at the cohort level. Own a rolling forecast the executive team and the Board can make decisions against and hold the business accountable to it.

Liquidity and treasury. Manage cash flow, liquidity and investments across the enterprise. Negotiate and steward lines of credit, warehouse facilities, and other funding arrangements to assure we maximize investments. Ensure covenant compliance and maintain the funding runway that growth depends on.

Capital markets and capital raising. Lead capital-raising efforts beyond our current funding sources. Build and maintain relationships with lenders, investors, and syndication partners, and position the company for securitization and other structured transactions when the timing is right.

Strategic partnership with the executive team. As a full member of the executive team, pressure-test strategy, assess financial risk and opportunity, provide financial input on new products and future business units, and translate ambition into a plan the numbers support.

Portfolio and asset performance. Partner with Risk to assure the financial performance of a growing portfolio of amortized assets. Track vintage and cohort analysis, loss curves, reserve adequacy, yield management, and the early-warning reporting that surfaces deterioration before it reaches the P&L. Lead financial due diligence on new portfolios and funding channels.

Financial reporting and consolidation. Aggregate and integrate financial analysis and performance across all business units and multiple entities. Deliver integrated reporting and systems that give leadership one reliable view of the business.

Controls, compliance, and governance. Own accounting, company-wide budgets, and profitability reporting. Develop the policies, procedures, and controls that keep a regulated lender clean, including SOC audits and applicable lease and revenue accounting standards.

Leadership. Lead and develop a division of finance, accounting, treasury and support professionals, and build the bench the next stage of growth requires.

What Success Looks Like in Your First Year

• Leadership has a shared, trusted view of unit economics by product, channel, and cohort and uses it to make pricing and capital allocation decisions.

• The forecast is accurate enough to plan against, and variance is explained rather than discovered.

• Liquidity is managed proactively, with funding capacity secured ahead of demand rather than in response to it.

• Asset performance is transparent, reserves are defensible, and credit signals reach the executive team early.

• The company is structurally and operationally ready for its next capital markets transaction.

• The finance organization is a partner the business seeks out, not a gate it works around.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Master's degree preferred; CPA strongly preferred.

• 10+ years of progressive financial leadership in financial services, with lending and leasing experience strongly preferred.

• Deep, hands-on understanding of alternative finance products and the economics of a portfolio of amortized assets.

• Minimum 8 years leading and developing teams, including other leaders.

• Significant cash flow management and treasury experience, including negotiating lines of credit and warehouse financing arrangements.

• Demonstrated experience with syndications and asset securitization, and a strong working understanding of the capital markets.

• Proven track record in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting at enterprise scale, including consolidation across multiple business units and majority-owned entities.

• Experience operating in a highly regulated industry, with strong knowledge of SOC audits and FASB 13.

• Strong analytical skills paired with excellent interpersonal, leadership, writing, and communication skills — you can make a complex financial picture clear to a Board, a lender, and an operator in the same week.

• A record of effective partnership across functions; highly organized and process-driven.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and NetSuite.

Location and Work Arrangement

This role is based in either our Atlanta, San Diego, or Orlando offices and is an in-office position. The partnership this role requires with the President and executive team is best served in person. Travel between offices is frequent and travel to lender, investor, and partner meetings should be expected.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $300,000 - $450,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and work location.
