Controller — H&G Systems (Dallas, TX)

About the Opportunity

H&G Systems is a well-established, family-oriented construction/mechanical company with deep roots in the Dallas Metroplex — several team members have been with the company for 25 to 40+ years. We're looking for a hands-on Controller who wants to be truly "in the weeds" with the numbers, not a hands-off manager who just reviews spreadsheets someone else built.

This is not a clock-in, clock-out role. We trust our people to be adults, manage their own schedules, and put in the time it takes to stay on top of the work — typically 45-50 hours per week.

What You'll Do

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and a small team of 3-4 accounting staff who report directly to you
• Get hands-on with the details — this is a "player-coach" role, not a big-team management position
• Become intimately familiar with our accounting software so you can spot issues, answer questions, and help the team do things correctly
• Ask questions — lots of them. We want someone genuinely curious about why things are done a certain way, who digs in to uncover and improve processes
• Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting
• Be willing to have direct, professional conversations when corners are being cut or documentation requirements aren't being followed
• Work closely with leadership as a trusted partner — someone who knows the job inside and out and can be relied on

What We're Looking For

• Construction industry accounting experience required
• Experience with ComputerEase construction accounting software strongly preferred, but not required — we'd rather have someone who asks great questions than someone who assumes everything is already right
• 5+ years of relevant accounting experience; candidates with 10-15+ years who bring broad capability are also encouraged to apply
• A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is preferred but not required — we care more about demonstrated ability than a diploma
• Someone detail-oriented, inquisitive, and trustworthy above all else
• A professional who can be polite and diplomatic, but isn't afraid to hold the line when needed
• Must be able to work from our Dallas office — this position is not eligible for relocation assistance
