Associate or Full Professor (Ladder Rank/In-Residence) Urology Benign Translational Research Faculty

Position title Benign Urology Translational Research Faculty Salary range The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and, if applicable, rank and/or step. The base pay range for this position is $150,000 - $250,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Position description The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, Department of Urology is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking a benign urology translational researcher to serve as the Vice Chair of Basic & Translational Research. The Department of Urology seeks an established investigator capable of leading impactful research initiatives and elevating the department's national profile. The Vice Chair of Basic & Translational Research will coordinate research in the Genitourinary Microbiome across a broad range of urological conditions, including nephrolithiasis, urinary incontinence and prolapse, stricture disease, male infertility, prosthetics & biofilm, and genitourinary oncology. In addition, they will foster collaboration across departments and disciplines (including SIO, engineering, and data sciences). They will work closely with the Microbiome Institute and the Vice Chair of Clinical Research to translate innovation to bedside applications, develop a core research curriculum for trainees, teach, and provide ongoing research didactics. The successful candidate will establish and maintain independent peer-reviewed funding, accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice, and mentor faculty and trainees to support their submissions as Principal Investigator for peer-reviewed funding. The appointment will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence (with secured extramural funding) or 100% Ladder Rank. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have an MD/PhD or equivalent, or a PhD in Biology, Microbiology, or a relevant discipline. Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of experience leading a research laboratory with a focus on the Microbiome. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in urological research, including collaborative work in bioengineering and biofilm. Candidates must have a track record of 2+ years of experience leading a clinical, translational, and/or basic research program, including an independent, extramurally funded research program (e.g., NIH R01 or equivalent).
