The Town of Rolesville is seeking candidates for the position of Police Officer to serve our growing population of approximately 10,600. We are looking for self‑starters to protect the lives and property of our citizens in a manner that supports our community policing philosophy. We offer multiple advancement opportunities through our Police Career Ladder. An individual serving as a Police Officer performs responsible law enforcement work in the areas of patrol, investigations, drugs and vice, school resource, traffic safety, professional standards, and other specialty units as may be formed. This position requires a high degree of independence and sound judgment that will vary according to the areas of assignment. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Police Sergeant. Examples of Duties Patrols assigned areas to detect and prevent crime; answers calls for service and assistance. Checks the physical security of businesses, homes, cars, etc.; gets out of car and closely inspects buildings; Establishes contact with citizens for public relations; Enforces traffic laws; patrols or conducts stationary observation of traffic; utilizes radar to detect speed violations; stops suspicious vehicles for investigation; issues warnings, citations, and arrests for violations; uses standard field sobriety tests to determine impairment; directs traffic as necessary; Serves criminal summonses, subpoenas, and warrants in assigned jurisdiction; makes arrests and transports suspects to the public safety center for processing; Responds different types of calls involving the accidents, commission of crimes, and violation of federal, state, and local regarding individuals, groups, and/or business and conducts investigations accordingly, including gathering information, interviewing witnesses and apprehending suspects; Attends community meetings; organizes neighborhood watches; makes presentations to churches, schools, civic organizations, and business leaders; participates in agency volunteer programs; advises citizens on departmental procedures and options; If assigned to investigations, performs the duties of a detective and conducts detailed investigation of crimes; conducts vice investigations, including audio or video surveillance; investigates white collar crimes; investigates assaults, breaking and entering and robbery; investigates major narcotics offenses; Develops informants for the purpose of gathering intelligence; Testifies in court on arrests made and assists the district attorney in preparing cases; Performs community policing functions in housing units and neighborhoods to reduce crime and improve community relations; meets with residents and property managers; Completes necessary reports for all actions taken; Prepares and delivers crime prevention and traffic safety talks; Maintains vehicle, firearms, and other equipment; Performs recruitment and training functions as needed; Performs other job‑related tasks as required. Minimum Requirements Must be a high school graduate or must have earned G.E.D. certificate. Must not have committed or been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor. Excellent physical condition and health certification through a physical examination. Must be a United States Citizen. Must be at least 20 years old. Must pass a psychological evaluation/examination provided by the agency. Must pass a drug screening test. Applicants must have completed BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training) and be eligible to obtain certification L.E.O from North Carolina Training and Standards or be in the process of completing BLET. Must be willing to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
