Class Specifications - (Class Code X)February 1, 2025REFERRAL COORDINATORFLSA: Non-ExemptUnder general supervision, Referral Coordinators coordinate the scheduling and communication of specialty care appointments and surgical procedures. Performs a variety of specialized clerical duties relating to the scheduling of patients for physician orders. Performs various related duties.TYPICAL ACTIVITIES:The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this classification.Referral Coordinators typically perform actions related to referrals and scheduling. Verifies eligibility and benefits for each referral before processing; schedules appointments with special providers within the time limits given by the physician; communicates to patients the date and time of their specialty appointment and assists with any questions the patients may have; inputs all referrals into the computer and generates a hard copy referral; appropriately answers routine inquiries, and refers non-routine inquiries to the provider; Accurately prepares any referrals for the Utilization Review Committee; and maintains accurate logs for external and internal audits.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIESIncumbents are required to have knowledge of modern office equipment, including computer terminals, phones, etc. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of medical insurance operations and procedures related to eligibility Ability to maintain files and records. Complies with infection control policies, quality assurance, and confidentiality standards and policies. Operate modern office equipment.
