Job Title: Registered Nurse - Oncology Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Oncology Type: Med Surg (Medical Surgical) Duration: 17 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 2 years of experience in oncology specialty - Certification in BLS and NIHSS Description: This position is for a registered nurse specializing in oncology with a focus on medical surgical care. The nurse will work on a unit with a total of 29 beds. The nurse will care for patients with acute oncology symptoms, including thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, and sickle cell crisis. End-of-life care is also part of the responsibilities. Ratios for patient care will generally be 1:5, with occasional 1:6. There is a central monitoring system present, but reading strips is not a requirement. Typically, three nurse aides are available to assist each day. Weekend shifts will be required every other weekend. Holidays will be rotated in with the staff. Floating to medical acute care is rare. There are specific protocols for those working with outpatient area patients. The ability to handle medical overflow is essential. A charge nurse will oversee staffing in unusual circumstances. The charting system utilized in this position is MEDITECH. This role does not require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
