In this role, you’ll join an established, service-driven organization in the real estate/title services space that supports high-volume, time-sensitive transactions. They’re seeking a qualified Senior Accounting Lead to join their team onsite in Bayside, NY and own the day-to-day accounting function while providing hands-on leadership to an Accounting Assistant.

Overview

This is a high-visibility accounting lead role reporting to the President, with responsibility for daily cash activity across multiple accounts, month-end close, reconciliations, and recurring industry-specific reporting/filings. You’ll bring strong controls-minded judgment (especially around approvals and payment changes) and help keep processes organized, documented, and audit-ready.

Job Description

• Run the day-to-day accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely processing across operating and escrow-related accounts
• Review daily cash activity and resolve banking/Positive Pay exceptions; escalate suspicious items appropriately
• Approve wires, refunds, and check requests within approval limits; route higher-value items for secondary approval
• Own month-end close including journal entries, accruals, and reclasses
• Prepare bank and escrow (three-way) reconciliations and investigate/resolve discrepancies
• Produce monthly financial statements and reporting packages (P&L trends, volume reporting, payroll-to-premium reporting)
• Oversee payroll-related accounting activities including pay runs, funding, reconciliations, and related journal entries
• Review accounts payable and credit card coding; verify changes to vendor payment instructions before updates are made
• Prepare and support underwriter/regulatory filings and audit schedules as needed
• Provide day-to-day work direction to an Accounting Assistant; support training, quality review, and process documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 4+ years of accounting experience including month-end close and bank reconciliations
• Experience reviewing/training/directing the work of a junior accounting team member (informal lead experience is fine)
• Strong understanding of cash activity and internal controls; high integrity with sensitive funds and approvals
• Intermediate Excel skills and comfort learning new accounting/banking systems quickly
• Preferred: Experience in title/escrow/real estate settlement environments (including three-way reconciliations and remittances)
