Job Description Summary At Nationwide, Corporate Development partners with enterprise and business leaders to identify, evaluate and execute opportunities that strengthen long-term growth, capabilities and value creation. As AVP, Corporate Development, you’ll lead Corporate Development teams responsible for mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, business integrations and opportunity assessment across Nationwide. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, bringing together market insight, strategic judgment, financial analysis and execution discipline to evaluate inorganic growth opportunities and make clear recommendations. You’ll oversee the full lifecycle of complex transactions and partnerships—from opportunity identification and diligence through negotiation, closing, integration and value realization—while building strong relationships with external partners, including investment banks, brokerage firms, advisors and other strategic counterparties. Key Responsibilities Lead the Corporate Development agenda and oversee the identification, screening and prioritization of mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, joint ventures, partnerships and other inorganic growth opportunities aligned with Nationwide’s strategy, risk appetite and financial objectives. Direct comprehensive opportunity assessments, including market and competitive analysis, strategic fit, business-case development, valuation, scenario analysis, risk assessment and executive-level recommendations. Lead transaction execution from initial contact through due diligence, structuring, negotiation, approval, signing and closing, coordinating internal stakeholders and external advisors while maintaining disciplined governance and confidentiality. Establish and oversee integration planning and execution for acquired or partnered businesses, including operating-model alignment, synergy realization, culture and talent considerations, risk and control requirements, technology and process integration, and post-close performance tracking. Build and maintain trusted relationships with investment banks, brokerage firms, private equity and strategic investors, legal and accounting advisors, consultants and other external partners to strengthen Nationwide’s market intelligence, access and execution capabilities. Partner with senior leaders across Finance, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Technology, Human Resources, business units and other functions to align transaction decisions with enterprise priorities, regulatory expectations, capital considerations and long-term value creation. Lead, coach and develop high-performing Corporate Development teams by setting priorities, allocating resources, ensuring quality and consistency of analysis, managing performance and building capabilities in strategic thinking, financial modeling, negotiation, transaction execution and integration leadership. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships This job reports to the Vice President, Corporate Development and Venture Capital. Typical Skills and Experiences Education: Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, accounting, strategy or a related field. Master of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent advanced degree preferred. Experience : Typically, twelve or more years of progressively responsible experience in corporate development, mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, private equity, corporate strategy, strategic finance, management consulting or a related field is required. Demonstrated experience leading complex transactions, including due diligence, valuation, negotiation, transaction approval and integration, is required. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Strong knowledge of mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, transaction structures, valuation methods, financial modeling, due diligence and integration planning. Ability to assess complex opportunities, synthesize incomplete or ambiguous information, identify risks and trade-offs, and make clear, evidence-based recommendations to senior leaders. Executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence across functions, facilitate decision-making and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Strong negotiation, relationship-management and stakeholder-alignment skills, including the ability to build productive relationships with banks, brokerage firms, advisors and strategic partners. Ability to lead multiple complex, confidential and time-sensitive workstreams while maintaining sound judgment, disciplined governance and attention to detail. Demonstrated people leadership, talent development, collaboration and change leadership capabilities. Proficiency with financial analysis, valuation methodologies, financial modeling and executive presentation development. Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
