Position Overview The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and managing a major gift portfolio with an emphasis on ensuring that as many donors as possible are retained. The Officer will focus on all aspects of relationship management—including growing the donor’s knowledge of the organization, involvement, and financial support. Duties include personal meetings, tours, donor engagement events, and other cultivation methods. This role is accountable for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects, including unrestricted, restricted, and capital projects. The Officer will also promote planned‑giving opportunities with their portfolio. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Manages a portfolio of 125 individual donors. Qualifies identified prospective and current donors. Creates individual goals for each person in the portfolio based on donor history and potential. Develops a timeline plan for each donor grounded in donor‑driven relationship building principles. Executes donor plans to retain and/or upgrade annual giving. Creates offers, proposals, and asks that align with donor interests and mission passion. Works with the Director of Philanthropy to prepare accurate portfolio reports. Meets established fundraising goals to support organizational needs. Performs ongoing statistical analysis and revenue benchmarking to evaluate overall growth. Engages portfolio and non‑portfolio donors in planned‑giving conversations when appropriate. Manages day‑to‑day donor relationships through meetings, calls, letters, reports, emails, and timely responses to inquiries and acknowledgments. Logs contact reports to the donor database(s). Represents Harvest Hope Food Bank’s mission, programs, and message to stakeholders and networks with the community. Performs other major donor/development activities as required, such as tours, public speaking, or spokesperson duties. Acts as a community ambassador/spokesperson as needed. Maintains a fund‑development cash metric established by the Director of Philanthropy. Adheres to all safety policies and procedures, reporting unsafe acts, hazards, incidents or accidents immediately. Recognizes that HHFB employees are considered emergency responders and may be called to perform regular or emergent duties during state or federally declared emergencies. Position Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Business Administration, or related study. Three or more years of experience in nonprofit development or a related field. Demonstrated experience cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of five‑and‑six‑figure gifts. Self‑starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent communications, interpersonal, and customer‑service skills; comfortable with public speaking. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must articulate HHFB’s mission clearly. Ability to relate effectively and professionally with staff, volunteers, agency representatives, and the public. Physical Requirements And Working Conditions This position operates primarily in an office setting within a branch location and requires extended periods of sitting, computer use, and meetings. Occasional time in warehouse environments with forklift traffic and varying temperatures may be required. Limited daytime travel and occasional work outside of normal business hours may be necessary.
