Job Description

The Quality Technician supports and enforces the company’s Quality Policy, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and food safety requirements to ensure all products meet strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards. This role focuses on driving a culture of continuous improvement in food safety and quality, performing inspections and audits, and coordinating product release activities within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Apply and uphold the company Quality Policy, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and all quality and food safety requirements across assigned production areas.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement in food safety and product quality by actively identifying opportunities for enhancement and supporting change initiatives.
• Conduct regular GMP audits to ensure products, services, housekeeping, and hygiene standards are consistently maintained and improved.
• Review Critical Control Point (CCP) and Preventive Control documentation to verify compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
• Investigate root causes of quality or food safety issues, including customer complaints, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Manage cocoa bean quality by executing sensory and quality evaluations of cocoa beans and supporting improvement initiatives with cocoa bean suppliers.
• Coordinate and execute the release of finished goods, ensuring only compliant products are approved for shipment.
• Perform hold and release activities for all finished products and ingredients, ensuring non-conforming materials are appropriately controlled.
• Conduct routine and ad-hoc inspections, tests, and audits to verify product quality attributes such as texture, color, taste, and packaging.
• Support internal and external food quality and safety audits, including documentation, reporting, and tracking of corrective actions.
• Serve as a backup quality control technician to support the quality control team as needed.
• Ensure quality testing procedures are efficient and do not hinder or delay production schedules.
• Communicate effectively with other departments and teams when quality or food safety concerns arise, ensuring timely resolution.
• Prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities to ensure all quality-related activities are completed accurately and on time.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of experience in a food laboratory or food manufacturing facility (preferred, but strongly valued).
• Hands-on experience in quality assurance, quality inspection, and quality control within a food production or GMP environment.
• Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Documentation Practices in a food production setting.
• Experience performing food inspections, including evaluation of product attributes such as texture, color, taste, and packaging.
• Ability to review and interpret Critical Control Point (CCP) and Preventive Control documentation.
• Strong skills in conducting inspections, tests, and audits to verify product quality and food safety compliance.
• Ability to investigate quality or food safety issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Strong mathematical and data processing skills for analyzing test results and quality data.
• Effective communication skills to interact with other departments, management, and employees, including timely escalation of concerns.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with and without direct supervision.
• Capability to prioritize and multi-task while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a GMP-regulated food production environment.
• Background in quality control or quality inspection roles in food manufacturing.
• Familiarity with cocoa or chocolate production processes and sensory evaluation of cocoa beans.
• Exposure to internal and external food safety and quality audits, including documentation and follow-up of corrective actions.
• Comfort using documentation systems and following Good Documentation Practices.
• Demonstrated ability to support cross-functional teams and act as a backup within the quality control function.

The standard shift runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. Employees regularly interact with production lines, quality testing equipment, and inspection tools while adhering to food safety protocols and hygiene standards appropriate for a food manufacturing facility.

This is a Contract position based out of Burlingame, CA.

The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $34.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Burlingame,CA.
