POSITION SUMMARY


Instruct tumbling and gymnastics classes offered by the Recreation Department.


HOURS


This is a part-time position, and hours are based on times that classes are offered. Midday (9am-5pm) availability on weekdays is a plus. Classes begin in August, but Summer opportunities are also available.


COMPENSATION


$28.57 - 42.86 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience)


ESSENTIAL DUTIES


• Arrive to work at least 10 minutes prior to class and be prepared for class to begin.


• Use age-appropriate language and music to teach class, keeping a positive attitude.


• Use appropriate classroom management skills to maintain control of the class.


• Communicate effectively with parents on expectations and upcoming performances.


• Assist in the planning and execution of the tumbling & gymnastic routines.


• Assist in marketing and promoting Park District programming.


• Serve in a professional and courteous manner with the highest regard to the customer.


• Work as a team player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments


• Physical ability and endurance to perform the job as required.


• Maintain a professional image and enforce all rules, regulations, and work to create a safe environment.


• Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.


• Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of all safety, rescue and first aid procedures at the facility.


• Accept responsibility for the cleanliness of the facility as assigned.


• Supports & exhibits the established organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people.


SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS


• Must be at least 16 years of age.


• Experience teaching children ages 1 - 5


• Experience in leading or participating in tumbling or gymnastics setting.


• Experience in teaching skills including climbing, crawling, somersaults, hand stand & bridge.


• Demonstrated maturity, reliability, initiative and responsibility.


• Ability to provide excellent guest service and the ability to positively interact with guests on a daily basis.


SUPERVISION


Under the general direction of the Dance Coordinator and Recreation Services Manager, the individual must be self-motivated and capable of initiating and developing tasks on a regular basis. The individual will perform projects assigned. The employee is responsible for prioritizing work tasks, and for identifying and utilizing the appropriate resources to resolve a problem or situation and/or research and analyze specific data. Guidance is provided through departmental policies, Park District operating practices and procedures, and other resources as applicable to the specific project assigned. Work is evaluated at least annually, with respect to problem-solving ability, customer service, research and analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and performance in accordance with this classification standard.
