We’re seeking a detail-oriented, growth-minded Staff Accountant to own assigned account reconciliations, journal entries, and close activities under the guidance of our Accounting Supervisor. This role is designed for an accountant with practical general accounting experience who is ready to take responsibility for recurring work while building specialized skills in company-specific revenue accounting, payroll, annual recurring revenue (ARR) reporting, and other core accounting processes. As a key contributor to the Accounting team, you will prepare journal entries and reconciliations, support month-end and year-end close activities, and progressively take on payroll processing, sales tax support, and ARR rollforward responsibilities as you complete training. Success in this role is measured by accuracy, timeliness, and the ability to research and resolve differences independently while following established review procedures.

• Develop a strong working knowledge of Naviant’s chart of accounts, close calendar, and accounting systems, including Accounting Seed and Salesforce.

• Learn assigned reconciliation and journal entry processes, including accruals, prepaids, and payroll entries.

• Build relationships with the Accounting Supervisor, payroll team, and cross-functional finance stakeholders.

• Shadow month-end close activities to understand deadlines, review procedures, and reporting requirements.

• Establish credibility through accuracy, organization, and clear communication.

• Independently prepare assigned journal entries, bank and balance-sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Investigate differences and follow up on outstanding items.

• Complete assigned monthly close activities and related reporting by established deadlines.

• Begin payroll training to learn company procedures for handling employee changes, deductions, and reimbursements under management review.

• Support sales and use tax activities through Avalara, including gathering information and making approved jurisdiction and tax code updates.

• Provide backup support for routine cash, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities as needed.

• Take ownership of assigned revenue and cost accruals, deferred-revenue schedules, and related entries with increasing independence while following established review procedures.

• Independently perform assigned payroll preparation and processing, including US and Canadian payroll accounting entries and reconciliations.

• Support ARR rollforwards, investigate changes, and progress toward ownership of assigned reporting components.

• Maintain organized supporting documentation and contribute to audit and information requests, including payroll and benefit-related audit support.

• Use company-approved automation and AI tools, with appropriate review, to document procedures and improve accounting workflows.

• Participate in cross-training and contribute to accounting projects, system updates, and process improvements.

General Accounting & Month-End Close

Hands-on experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and prepaids within established close deadlines. Working knowledge of GAAP and strong reconciliation skills, with the ability to investigate differences and follow up on outstanding items. Comfortable supporting monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, and providing backup for routine cash, accounts payable, and accounts receivable activities as needed.

Payroll & Compliance Support

Willingness to learn company payroll procedures, including employee changes, deductions, reimbursements, and US and Canadian payroll accounting entries, subject to management review. Able to maintain confidentiality while addressing employee payroll questions and reconciling related general ledger accounts.

Revenue Accounting & ARR Reporting

Experience with, or aptitude for, revenue and cost accruals and deferred-revenue schedules. Able to support ARR rollforwards, investigate changes, and progress toward ownership of assigned reporting components as trained.

Sales Tax & State Registration Support

Experience with, or exposure to, sales and use tax activities and state or local registrations. Comfortable using tools such as Avalara to gather information, monitor filing calendars and notices, and make approved updates to jurisdictions, tax codes, and company information under supervision.

Systems Proficiency, Ownership & Continuous Learning

Proficient in Excel and familiar with accounting systems; experience with Accounting Seed or Salesforce is helpful but not required. Self-starter who takes responsibility for assigned work, maintains organized documentation, follows established review procedures, and communicates issues that require review. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
