Senior Technical Director - Nationwide Financial Actuarial - Remote

This role is ideal for a leader who can combine leadership depth, business acumen, technical acumen, and change leadership to drive a broader actuarial technology strategy across data, tooling, and applications.

What you will do

  • Focus on strategic leadership across actuarial data, actuarial systems, and enterprise technology partnership.
  • Define and drive the NF data strategy.
  • Guide the evolution of actuarial tools and applications.
  • Influence the future direction of the team’s technology roadmap.
  • Play a key role in major data platform modernization work.
  • Partner with IT and actuarial stakeholders to drive adoption and long-term execution.
  • Shape how the organization thinks about emerging technology, including AI, in support of actuarial analysis, modeling, data, and decision support.
  • Set direction, establish priorities, lead through others, and help the team execute at a higher strategic level.

What success looks like

  • Set clear priorities and strategic direction for a technical team supporting the Actuarial organization.
  • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving actuarial, data, systems, and IT partners.
  • Advance enterprise data platform and actuarial technology modernization efforts, including Snowflake and Databricks-related work.
  • Translate complex technical and actuarial topics into practical business recommendations.
  • Influence stakeholders, drive change, and improve execution across teams.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or similar background requiring modeling, programming or quantitative analysis.
  • Achievement of Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries.
  • Membership in the Society of Actuaries and American Academy of Actuaries.
  • At least eight years Actuarial experience and Actuarial Council approval.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates the highest level of technical actuarial expertise in life insurance product mechanics and embedded options, pricing models, life pricing assumptions, valuation and non-forfeiture laws, tax code 7702, state life insurance regulations.
  • Leadership, influence, and communication skills.
  • Ability to apply past actuarial experience to new product concepts and requirements, such as Principles Based Reserves.
