Construction Laborer / Service Technician

This role focuses on refurbishing, repairing, and preparing mobile office units and storage units for construction companies in the Bay Area. You use your hands-on construction skills—such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general repairs—to ensure each unit is clean, functional, and ready to be shipped out. This position is ideal for someone with experience in home remodeling, new construction, or other skilled trades who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants to grow their career in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Meet with the team at the start of each day to review assignments and understand the tasks to be completed.
• Perform hands-on refurbishing and repair work on mobile office units and yard projects, gaining additional training and experience through daily tasks.
• Clean and prepare returned units, including sweeping, hosing out dirt and debris, and ensuring interiors are thoroughly cleaned.
• Replace flooring materials such as tiles and epoxy flooring, and ensure floors are properly cleaned and finished after installation.
• Repair drywall damage, including patching holes, applying drywall putty, and sanding surfaces to create a smooth finish.
• Paint interior surfaces after drywall repairs, using appropriate painting tools and techniques to achieve a clean, professional appearance.
• Replace and install basic fixtures including lightbulbs, locks, blinds, door handles, and similar components to ensure units are fully functional.
• Perform framing and finish carpentry tasks as needed to repair or improve unit structures.
• Carry out light electrical work such as basic fixture replacement in accordance with safety protocols and company guidelines.
• Assist with plumbing-related repairs and readiness work as needed to ensure units are operational.
• Read and interpret basic construction or refurbishment instructions and, where applicable, simple blueprints to complete assigned tasks correctly.
• Use power tools such as drills and saws, along with hand tools and other equipment, safely and effectively to complete repair and construction tasks.
• Document completed work accurately, noting any issues that require additional attention or follow-up, and verify that units meet readiness standards.
• Follow established safety protocols at all times, including proper use of masks, protective equipment, and safe handling of tools and materials.
• Work both independently on individual tasks and collaboratively within a team environment to complete refurbishing projects efficiently.
• Support yard projects and other hands-on work that contribute to the overall maintenance and readiness of units and facilities.
• Participate in on-the-job training to build skills in carpentry, drywall, painting, electrical, plumbing, and general construction trades.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience in construction, general labor, or a closely related hands-on trade.
• Practical experience in construction trades such as carpentry, framing, drywall work, remodeling, or general repair.
• Ability to perform framing and finish carpentry tasks with attention to detail and quality.
• Experience with drywall installation and repair, including patching, putty application, and preparation for painting.
• Capability to perform basic painting work on interior surfaces following drywall repair and preparation.
• Familiarity with light electrical tasks, such as replacing fixtures or lightbulbs, in a safe and compliant manner.
• Exposure to plumbing-related work, including basic repairs and readiness tasks in a construction or refurbishment setting.
• Hands-on experience using power tools such as power drills and saws, or a strong willingness to learn and use them with training.
• Understanding and adherence to safety protocols, including proper use of protective equipment and safe work practices.
• Ability to follow rules, instructions, and procedures and work effectively in a team environment.
• Comfort with labor-intensive, hands-on work, including standing, walking, lifting, and working outdoors in a yard setting.
• Basic ability to document work performed and identify items that require additional repair or follow-up.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on home remodels, home refurbishing, or new construction projects.
• Experience in service work related to construction, repair, or maintenance.
• Remodeling experience, including sheetrock work, finish carpentry, and general repairs, is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with construction processes such as turnovers, refurbishing, and readiness work for units or properties.
• Ability to read and understand basic blueprints or construction drawings is beneficial.
• Experience with fire alarm systems or related construction service work is a plus.
• Comfort using a variety of tools and materials, including cleaning supplies, paint, brushes, rollers, stencils, drywall putty, masks, and other construction-related equipment.
• Eagerness to participate in on-the-job training to expand skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general construction trades.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to producing quality work on every unit.

Work Environment

You work primarily in a yard environment on mobile office units and storage units, rather than at client sites. The role is labor-intensive and hands-on, with most tasks performed on the ground and inside the units, including cleaning, repairing, and refurbishing. You alternate between working as part of a team and completing individual assignments, depending on the project needs. The tools and materials you use include cleaning supplies, paint and painting equipment such as buckets, brushes, rollers, and stencils, drywall putty and masks for patching holes, and power tools such as drills and saws. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Martin, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
