Posting Summary Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking an Assistant Dean II. Rutgers Law School (RLS) seeks an experienced, strategically minded candidate with a record of setting and achieving student success goals to lead our Bar Studies Program in Newark. The successful candidate must be creative and organized, possess a deep understanding of the bar exam, and have analytical, quantitative, and collaborative skills. The Assistant Dean II must possess a commitment to advancing bar passage rates in Newark through a variety of bar-related interventions and careful monitoring of student success from matriculation through bar admission. The Assistant Dean II of Bar Studies in Newark will report to the Associate/Assistant Dean of Bar Studies and work closely with the faculty and administration. Responsibilities Assist in designing, implementing, and managing programming to improve and maintain bar passage rates at RLS so that they are at or above those of peer institutions. Assist the Assistant/Associate Dean of Bar Studies in developing, teaching, and supervising courses focused on bar passage. Assist with academic success programming at RLS in conjunction with the academic success faculty. Use student data and resources from internal and external partners. Track bar data and reporting, champion data-driven decisions that meet bar passage and student success goals. Manage contractual relationships with vendors related to bar studies. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: J.D. from an ABA-approved law school with strong academic credentials. Current or prior admission to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction. A minimum of 3 years of law-related experience, post-law school graduation. A minimum of 2 years of experience in bar exam advising and/or tutoring. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exemplary professional, administrative, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills. Excellent oral and written proficiency as well as strong organizational abilities. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and to manage others. Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically about techniques to improve law students' bar readiness and to design, implement, and arrange innovative programs to promote bar passage success. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information, exhibit good judgment, and provide customer service in working with students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with data, empirical analysis, and software applications. Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail. Ability to apply creative problem‑solving skills to develop solutions within established policies, guidelines, accreditation standards, and applicable law. Preferred Qualifications: At least 3 years of prior law school administrative experience, preferably related to bar preparation or academic support. Prior experience directing or supporting a law school bar preparation or academic support program. Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques within a legal or higher education setting.
