CDOC - Community Parole Officer (Denver Metro)

Job Overview The Division of Adult Parole supervises inmates and parolees 24/7 to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes and to provide re‑entry support. Job Description Conduct field work (pre‑release plan investigation, home visitation, job verification, parole violation investigation), including after hours. Apply evidence‑based assessment, case planning and supervision techniques under the supervision of a team leader or supervisor. Direct the assessment and supervision plan of community‑based parolees by analyzing case material and interviewing to update the Colorado Transition Accountability Plan (CTAP), incorporating community supervision conditions and parolee goals. Monitor parolee compliance and progress by overseeing employment, drug treatment, restitution payments, residential status, and specialized treatment programs, escorting to activities if needed. Interact with parolees and use motivational interviewing, coaching, and other evidence‑based practices to reinforce pro‑social behavior and assist parolees in developing problem‑solving skills. Provide crisis intervention, personal counseling and guidance to parolees in resolving interpersonal, familial, and financial problems to enhance parolee success and public safety. Respond to parolee non‑compliant behavior by investigating violations and imposing appropriate sanctions consistent with the Colorado Violation Decision Making Process (CVDMP) or community violation matrix. Present case information for evidentiary hearings (COPD, Parole revocation, YOS revocation, Interstate Compact probable cause) and serve as a hearing officer for COPDs on residential and CRCF parolees. Attend training and develop skills in evidence‑based supervision techniques (motivational interviewing, assessment, case planning, cognitive behavioral interventions). Maintain proficiency in firearms, arrest control techniques, CPR, and first aid, and maintain a thorough understanding of use‑of‑force compliance. Perform periodic on‑call or call‑back duties after hours on a 24/7 basis. Pursuant to C.R.S. 16‑2.6‑101, function as a PEACE Officer, make arrests and transport parolees. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or four (4) years of coursework and professional experience in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or counseling, including one (1) year in social work, case management or community supervision. Current and valid Colorado P.O.S.T. certification (or equivalent) from another state with ability to obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. via provisional process, or eligibility to obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. through Federal Reciprocity program. A copy of the POST certificate must be uploaded. Minimum age of 21 years. Valid driver’s license. High‑school diploma or GED. No felony convictions or domestic violence history. Valid U.S. work authorization at the time of application. Required Competencies Self‑control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations. Ability to maintain effective working relationships and collaborate with others. Ability to work with a high‑risk/high‑need population. Ability to work with a diverse population. Ability to read and comprehend the English language. Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications Prior State of Colorado experience. Experience as a parolee advocate to help parolees reintegrate. Knowledge of law enforcement, corrections, parole, or probation operations or case management. Experience with community supervision as an alternative to incarceration. Experience working in a correctional or community supervision environment. Broad knowledge of social perception, human behavior, motivation and their applicability in rehabilitation. Experience with hard‑to‑serve, high‑need, or high‑risk clients. Experience with case planning including setting goals and objectives. Knowledge of evidence‑based practices and interventions for the successful re‑entry of parolees.
