CDOC - Community Parole Officer (Denver Metro).

Department Information Qualifications Applicants may be Colorado residents or non‑residents. Must meet the education and/or experience minimum qualifications. Must meet one of the following:

  • Possess a current and valid Colorado P.O.S.T. certification.
  • Possess a current and valid P.O.S.T. certification (or law enforcement equivalent) from another state and be able to obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. by the provisional process before being hired.
  • Be eligible to obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. through the Federal Reciprocity program before being hired.

Description of Job The Division of Adult Parole supervises inmates and parolees 24/7 to promote public safety and facilitate successful re‑entry. The role includes field work and community supervision activities such as: Conducting field investigations, home visits, job verifications, and parole violation investigations. Applying evidence‑based assessments, case planning, and supervision techniques. Managing the Colorado Transition Accountability Plan (CTAP) and updating parolee goals. Monitoring compliance with employment, drug treatment, restitution, residence, and specialized treatment programs. Using motivational interviewing, coaching, and evidence‑based practices to support parolees. Providing crisis intervention, counseling, and problem‑solving guidance. Investigating violations and imposing sanctions per the Colorado Violation Decision Making Process. Presenting case information for evidentiary hearings and serving as a hearing officer for certain cases. Attending training on evidence‑based supervision techniques. Maintaining proficiency in firearms, arrest techniques, CPR, and first aid, and ensuring use‑of‑force compliance. Being on call or handling callbacks after hours on a 24/7 basis. Acting as a PEACE Officer, making arrests, and transporting parolees. Performing other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. OR a combination of coursework and professional experience in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or counseling totaling four (4) years, including one (1) year in social work, case management, or community supervision. Must possess and maintain a current and valid Colorado P.O.S.T. certification (or equivalent) obtained before hire. Must be at least 21 years old. Must have a valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Must have no felony convictions or domestic violence history. Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must have valid U.S. work authorization. Must successfully complete the six‑week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training, including Defensive Tactics modules. Must demonstrate physical ability to complete Defensive Tactics and meet specific performance requirements. Must be able to pass background investigation and drug testing. Required Competencies Self‑control and ability to work in stressful or violent situations. Alertness, emotional stability, and mental resilience under pressure. Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Self‑motivation, initiative, and ability to balance public safety with re‑entry goals. Organizing, planning, and prioritizing work. Strong computer and technology skills. Effective written and oral communication for diverse audiences. Critical thinking and decision‑making skills. Ability to multi‑task and demonstrate flexibility. Ability to maintain effective working relationships and collaborate with others. Ability to work with high‑risk/high‑need and diverse populations. English fluency in verbal and written communication. Preferred Qualifications Prior State of Colorado experience. Experience as a parolee advocate. Knowledge of law enforcement, corrections, parole, or probation operations. Experience with community supervision as an alternative to incarceration. Experience working in correctional or community supervision environments. Broad knowledge of social perceptiveness, human behavior, and motivation in rehabilitation. Experience working with high‑need or high‑risk clients. Experience with case planning and goal setting. Knowledge of evidence‑based practices for parolee re‑entry. Experience with Motivational Interviewing (MI).
