Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for administering a broad range of human resources programs and initiatives that support the Seminary's mission, employees, and organizational objectives. This position is expected to work between 28 and 40 hours per week, based on departmental and organizational needs. Working collaboratively with the Associate Vice President for Human Resources, the HR Generalist serves as a key partner in delivering efficient, compliant, and employee-centered HR services across the employee lifecycle. Responsibilities include payroll administration, recruitment and onboarding, benefits administration, HRIS management, employee relations support, compliance, performance management, training coordination, and employee engagement initiatives.

The HR Generalist works closely with faculty, staff, supervisors, and institutional leadership to provide guidance on HR policies, respond to and resolve employee inquiries, and continuously improve HR processes and services. This role is expected to proactively identify opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen the employee experience, and ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and Seminary policies. The HR Generalist will also contribute to strategic Human Resources initiatives that support the Seminary's mission and overall organizational success.

Required Education and Experience

• Associate's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
• Three years of payroll processing experience.
• Two years of human resource management experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
• At least one year of human resource management experience preferred.
• Prior related office experience preferred.
• SHRM-CP a plus

Essential functions and responsibilities

Payroll & HR Operations

• Manage payroll processing, audits, reporting, and compliance.
• Maintain HRIS data and personnel records.
• Prepare HR reports and employment documentation.
• Conduct regular audits of payroll, personnel files, and HR data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Recommend and implement improvements to HR processes, workflows, and recordkeeping practices.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

• Coordinate recruitment and onboarding for staff, student workers, adjunct faculty, and temporary employees.
• Manage employment documentation and employee transitions.
• Partner with hiring managers on staffing needs.
• Coordinate background checks, employment verifications, and pre-employment requirements.
• Facilitate new employee orientation and ensure a seamless onboarding experience from hire through integration.

Employee Relations & Compliance

• Support employee relations, ADA accommodations, and policy administration.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws and required training.
• Assist supervisors with employee performance concerns, coaching, and corrective action documentation.
• Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook content.
• Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations and institutional policies.

Employee Experience & Continuous Improvement

• Support performance management and employee recognition.
• Coordinate HR communications and engagement activities.
• Recommend process improvements and assist with strategic HR projects.
• Analyze HR metrics and trends to support informed decision-making.
• Partner with leadership to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture.
• Assist with organizational development initiatives, employee engagement surveys, and change management efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
